Department Overview
Guardian ICCS is an Integrated Communication Control System used by emergency service operators across the UK & Europe. We help 112 operators answer calls from the public and dispatch out nearby responders, enabling the right response when every second counts.
As our solution has grown from a small startup to one of the leading offerings for Fire & Police agencies, our customers now trust us to solve more of their problems. You will help us innovate across the Guardian portfolio by building a more resilient and fault-tolerant solution, and by building new functionality to increase the safety and efficiency of emergency response agencies, ultimately helping our customers save lives.
Job Description

The role of the Platform Product Owner (PPO) is to lead a team of engineers in maintaining and enhancing the core emergency call-taking and dispatch platform. Collaborating with colleagues across Product, Engineering, Deployment, and Hosting, the PPO is the key driver of innovation throughout the product, by exploring and developing new functionality for mission-critical features, whilst also ensuring the product's reliability, security, and effectiveness in highly secure and critical availability environments.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the PPO will require a balance of business acumen, technical skill and product leadership to assist in shaping our future roadmap as we expand into international markets, whilst also contributing to our current goals of reducing call wait times in Police Contact Centers through functionality such as live-streaming video, AI-assisted transcription and summarisation, and AI-enhanced Audio.

Basic Requirements

The Platform Product Owner's responsibilities encompass a wide range of duties, including:

  • Collaboration and Strategy: Platform Product Owner works closely with a diverse team of stakeholders, including engineers, designers, business analysts, hosting and delivery teams,  to identify and investigate challenges aligned with our mission and vision, and then strategically prioritise potential solutions to inform our long-term roadmap.

  • Defining Requirements: We know it’s impossible to know everything up front, but accurate documentation and timely updates of user stories and technical tasks are essential when working in an autonomous, transparent and asynchronous team environment.

  • Communication and Demonstrations: The PPO will be required to communicate highly technical and complex topics to both highly- experienced engineers and a wider stakeholder group, some with limited technical experience. You should be comfortable explaining such concepts both at an accessible level to senior executives and in sufficient depth to enable experienced engineers to implement proposed projects and features utilising prototypes, visual designs and technical diagrams.

  • Overseeing Development and Testing: Working directly with a team of engineers, the PPO will play a key role in planning, refining and developing both conceptual prototypes and production-level functionality, ensuring that the final solution meets the defined requirements. This also includes overseeing the testing process, in collaboration with Quality Assurance engineers and dedicated test teams,  to ensure that the solution is free of defects in end-to-end delivery.

  • Staying Informed: Continuously monitoring the performance of the solution and gathering feedback from users to identify areas for improvement. This involves staying up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in the industry and being proactive in identifying opportunities to enhance the solution and deliver greater value to the user.

This role is primarily remote with occasional travel to our UK offices and sites.

In return for your expertise, we’ll support you in this new challenge with coaching & development every step of the way. Also, to reward your hard work you’ll get:

  • Competitive salary and bonus schemes.

  • Two weeks additional pay per year (holiday bonus).

  • 25 days holiday entitlement + bank holidays.

  • Attractive defined contribution pension scheme.

  • Employee stock purchase plan.

  • Flexible working options.

  • Private medical care.

  • Life assurance.

  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.

  • Career development support and wide ranging learning opportunities.

  • Employee health and wellbeing support EAP, wellbeing guidance etc.

  • Carbon neutral initiatives/goals.

  • Corporate social responsibility initiatives including support for volunteering days.

  • Well known companies discount scheme.
