Job description:
Job Summary:
The role will be required to provide technical and coordination support to the Group Tailings and assurance function with a focus on converting technical information into practical inputs for planning, governance implementation and site execution. The role will also be required to support operating sites in managing their tailings storage facilities, improve follow-up and documentation, assist with technical preparation and help maintain continuity between Group, sites, consultants, contractors, and the Designer of Record / Engineer of Record interface.
Key Responsibilities:
- Volumetric and capacity assessments and support
- Survey and geometry review
- Deposition and operating scenario support
- Monitoring data compilation, presentation and trend preparation.
- Stability and design support inputs
- Drainage and construction tracking
- Consultant deliverable tracking and first-pass review
- Dashboards and action management
- Governance implementation support
- Group continuity support
Minimum Qualifications:
- BTech / BEngTech / BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in geotechnical engineering, tailings, mine waste, or water management would be beneficial but is not essential.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in tailings, geotechnical engineering, mine waste, earthworks, water management, or mining infrastructure.
- Experience with tailings storage facilities, embankments, construction monitoring, deposition planning, or geotechnical investigations would be preferred.
- Site experience would be important, as the role needs to understand practical implementation and not only documentation.
Working Arrangements:
The role will require a combination of regular visits to operating sites and office-based work. The focus will initially be on our Zambian operations but will extend to support other operations across the group.
Key Skills:
- Strong Excel skills, including basic calculations, tracking tables, summaries, and charts.
- Ability to work with survey surfaces, drawings, produce cross-sections, and perform volume calculations.
- Ability to understand and organise monitoring data, including piezometers, pond levels, rainfall, survey monuments, and deformation data.
- Ability to read technical reports and extract actions, assumptions, risks, and follow-up items.
- Good technical writing and reporting skills.
- Good attention to detail and document-control discipline.
- Ability to coordinate with site teams, consultants, contractors, and Group.
- Practical mindset and willingness to follow up actions until they are closed.
- Basic understanding of tailings storage facility governance, Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance requirements, Trigger Action Response Plans, design-change control, and risk registers would be beneficial.
