POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Leader supports the acting Site Director in facilitating activities and the operational logistics of a site for the School Age Childcare Program of the South Sound YMCA as directed by the acting Site Director, Program Director and/or Sr. Program Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Always monitors the whereabouts of Y-care children both inside and especially outside when playing in the open to meet safety standards and protocols. 

  1. Report and document all injuries, accidents, and incidents for Y-care youth and staff, and filing the appropriate reports related to behavior, injury, accidents, etc., and notify the acting Site Director immediately. 

  1. Implement and facilitate enrichment activities appropriately. 

  1. Maintains good YMCA relationships with children, parents/guardians, community and school staff. 

  1. Sees that all appropriate supplies required are available to run indoor and outdoor activities. 

  1. Reads and becomes familiar with licensing regulations; sees that the program meets all the requirements as set by the State; immediately report any problems to acting Site Director and assigned Program Director. 

  1. Turns in completed paperwork by required deadlines. 

  1. Attend required and appropriate trainings and staff meetings. 

  1. Treats every participant fairly and equally regardless of differences, making every student feel good about themselves and encouraging a fun, positive environment. 

  1. Reads and follows the guidelines of the policy manual \Dresses in clean, neat clothing appropriate for indoor and outdoor educational and recreational activities; maintains a high standard of personal appearance and grooming, including personal hygiene, in accordance with standards set by the YMCA personnel policy. 

  2. Maintains site in accordance with school district standards by doing such custodial duties as necessary to leave the general space, restrooms, sinks, halls, playground, etc. in clean, orderly condition. 

  3. Utilize site iPad to ensure students are signed in and out daily in accordance with South Sound YMCA operating procedures. 

  4. Maintain accurate time and attendance records through HRIS system. 

  5. Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Be 18 years of age. 

  1. Education: Have or working towards completing a High School diploma or equivalent. 

  1. Possess at least one year of experience working with children; volunteers; cooperate with school personnel in a positive, professional manner; maintain a facility in accordance with state licensing regulations and YMCA requirements; relate well to children and their families 

  1. Training: meet and maintain training standards set by the state of Washington as a childcare professional, including completion of 30-hour childcare basics training and 10 additional yearly hours. 

  1. Pass background check through DCYF and SSYMCA 

 

 

Upon Hire: 

  1. Must complete all SSYMCA required trainings within 45 days of hire. 

  1. Complete all DCYF Licensing requirements within 14 days of hire: 

  1. Negative Tuberculosis Test 

  1. MMR record 

  1. Current Food Handler Permit 

  1. High School or College Transcripts 

  1. Fingerprints and DCYF background check 

  1. Complete required STARS qualified trainings. 

 

Has the following documentation on file at the site, the YMCA Child Care Office, and digitally on the employee’s 

HRIS profile within expressed time limits after hire: 

  • First Aid, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens training completed within 45 days of hire 

  • New Employee Orientation completed within 45 days of hire 

  • Food Handlers Card completed within the first 7 days of employment or have a current Food Handlers Card 

 

PART-TIME BENEFITS: 

  • Paid sick time (one hour accrued for every 40 hours worked) 

  • One paid floating holiday per calendar year

Skills Required

  • Be 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or working towards equivalent
  • At least one year of experience working with children
  • Complete and maintain 30-hour childcare basics training and 10 additional yearly hours
  • Pass DCYF and South Sound YMCA background checks
  • Complete SSYMCA required trainings within 45 days of hire
  • Complete DCYF licensing requirements within 14 days of hire (Negative TB test, MMR record)
  • Current Food Handler Permit or obtain within required timeframe
  • Fingerprinting and DCYF background check documentation on file
  • First Aid, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens training completed within 45 days of hire
