At CBCL Limited, we are a successful, dynamic, and growing engineering and environmental consulting firm. We have an exciting opportunity for a Group Lead, Electrical Buildings – NB to join our team in New Brunswick. There is a possibility to operate out of Moncton, Saint John, or Fredericton.

Bring your technical expertise, people-focused leadership, and collaborative mindset to a team that delivers excellence in electrical design and consulting for buildings projects across New Brunswick and beyond. In this role, you will guide and support a talented group of engineers and technologists, contribute to project delivery and client relationships, and help shape the continued growth and success of our Electrical Buildings practice.

 

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Support the Team: Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and mentorship to electrical engineers and technologists, supporting workload planning, technical development, collaboration, and overall team performance.
  • Oversee Electrical Buildings Design: Guide the design, analysis, and coordination of electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, life safety, communications, security, and access control systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, infrastructure, and residential projects.
  • Support Business Development and Client Relationships: Contribute to business development efforts by maintaining strong client relationships, identifying opportunities, supporting proposals, and representing CBCL’s Electrical Buildings group with professionalism and technical credibility.
  • Manage and Coordinate Project Delivery: Work closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to support successful project planning and delivery, helping to ensure quality, budget, schedule, and client expectations are met.
  • Foster Innovation and Collaboration: Promote innovative problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement while supporting a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
  • Ensure Quality and Technical Excellence: Apply sound engineering judgment, complete technical reviews, and support quality management practices to ensure design solutions comply with electrical codes, safety standards, building requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Support Construction and Field Services: Lead or support site reviews, respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, resolve field issues, and ensure construction activities align with design intent and project requirements.
  • Contribute to Group Planning and Growth: Support resource planning, staff development, technical standards, and strategic initiatives that strengthen the Electrical Buildings group and contribute to CBCL’s continued growth in New Brunswick.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • A Degree in Electrical Engineering or diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with provincial Engineering or technical association;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant electrical buildings design experience, including demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, or team coordination;
  • Strong experience in electrical building systems design, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, communications, security, and controls, with in-depth knowledge of applicable building, energy, and electrical codes and standards;
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project coordination, technical reviews, proposal support, and client-focused project delivery in a consulting environment;
  • Proficiency with electrical design and coordination tools such as AutoCAD and Revit, with the ability to guide others in producing coordinated, high-quality deliverables;
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills, with the ability to support team members, build trusted client relationships, and deliver quality work on time and within budget.

The following would be considered assets:

  • Experience working in a consulting engineering environment, particularly within electrical buildings design, is preferred;
  • Previous experience in a group lead, discipline lead, or formal people leadership role would be considered an asset;
  • Experience using Agi32 lighting analysis software and SKM Power Tools; and
  • The ability to communicate in both English and French would be an asset.
