Group Finance Manager – 6-month contract (potential to go permanent)Sydney CBD with flexible working (3 days office / 2 days WFH)The Group Finance Manager is a 6‑month contract role within Group Financial Control during the year-end reporting cycle, and the right candidate will have a strong possibility of securing a permanent role.
This role is a good fit for:
A seasoned industry finance professional at manager level or above, with hands-on experience in group reporting, technical accounting and consolidation within an ASX-listed or similarly complex environment; or
A Senior Manager (or equivalent) / first-time mover from Big 4 firm, bringing strong statutory reporting and audit experience.
The role sits within an experienced team responsible for consolidated financial reporting across the enterprise, as well as Challenger’s corporate entities and a portfolio of structured vehicles. It will suit an experienced finance professional who is comfortable operating in a listed or similarly complex environment and can build effective relationships across the business.
About the Role
As Group Finance Manager, your immediate priority will be taking a lead role with the team to deliver the Group Annual Financial Report including:
Preparation and review of the Group Annual Report and "Left Hand Notes"
Managing disclosures, notes and supporting analysis
Managing the corporate entity audit processes
Driving month-end discipline across the reporting period in partnership with the broader team
Beyond reporting, the role also involves:
Supporting group consolidation across multiple entities and structures
Providing technical accounting input for strategic transactions including acquisitions, business arrangements and other corporate matters.
Partnering with other finance and business performance teams to provide clear, actionable and practical advice.
Supporting the ongoing changes within the Group ad be a role model for junior members of the team.
Business Partnering
Act as a trusted partner across Finance and the broader business
Translate technical accounting into clear, practical advice for stakeholders
Confidently manage upwards, keeping senior stakeholders informed and escalating risks where needed
Transactions & Change
Contribute to M&A and corporate transactions
Support onboarding of new entities, trusts and structures into Group Finance
Supporting implementation of new accounting standards (e.g. AASB 18)
Finance Systems & Reporting
Work across finance systems (e.g. Workiva, Workday)
Support reporting structures, tagging, entity set up and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
This role is best suited to a seasoned finance professional who is comfortable working in a complex, multi-entity environment.
You will bring:
Deep experience in ASX-listed environments or audit experience covering large, consolidated groups
Strong financial reporting and technical accounting capability
Strong experience with annual reporting and other statutory reporting cycles
Comfortable working with large and complex data sets
The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
A growth mindset with a willingness and capability to learn new things in a dynamic and exciting environment where no two days are the same.
Sound judgement and the confidence to take initiative to solve problems and escalate issues where appropriate
Knowledge of Workday financial systems and Workiva (highly regarded but not essential)
Qualifications
You’ll be CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent) with at least 4+ years' post-qualification experience.
