POSITION PURPOSE:
The Group Facilitator is responsible for planning and leading group sessions that support participants in achieving shared objectives. This role guides group discussions and activities, manages group dynamics, and fosters a collaborative, inclusive environment where all participants feel empowered to contribute. Key responsibilities include organizing and leading sessions to meet defined goals, facilitating open discussion while navigating varying perspectives, maintaining an environment that encourages participation from all members, monitoring group progress and adjusting the facilitation approach as needed, resolving conflicts or disruptions professionally, and summarizing outcomes with appropriate follow-up. The Group Facilitator plays a key role in ensuring sessions are productive, engaging, and aligned with organizational or program goals.
Qualifications
Qualification Requirements:
- Masters level education in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field is required.
- Prior experience in facilitating therapeutic groups is required.
- Ability to create a safe and inclusive support group environment, including a strong interpersonal communication skillset.
- Commitment to promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Additional training or certifications is preferred, but not required: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), etc.
Licensing Requirements:
A valid and unencumbered clinical license for the State of New Jersey, which can be as a:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
- Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC)
- Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT)
- Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC)
Pay: This is a 1099 independent contractor role that is compensated per group facilitated (these are 1 hour and 15 minute sessions, plus time needed for documentation). This is a part-time position without benefits.
Flexible availability preferred.
Skills Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Related certification unless the candidate holds a master's degree in a clinical field
- ADCA certification for the Maine position
- Two years of continuous sobriety before hire if recovering from a substance use disorder, plus participation in a self-help program
- At least two years of experience with chemical dependency and/or dual-diagnosed clients, preferably in an outpatient setting
- Bachelor's degree
- CPR certification
- Knowledge of addictions, mental health disorders, trauma-informed care, 12-Step recovery, peer support, crisis response, withdrawal, overdose procedures, confidentiality, client rights, and applicable treatment regulations
- Ability to recognize participant distress and safety threats, manage emergencies, facilitate groups, document client care, and communicate effectively
- Familiarity with community resources
