We are currently seeking energetic, engaging, and motivational Group Exercise Instructors to teach Morning and Afternoon/Evening Classes with a focus on cardio/conditioning.
We also are interested in hiring for our new Family Fitness classes.
Position Summary
The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for providing safe, engaging, and effective fitness experiences for members of all ages and abilities. This role promotes healthy lifestyle habits, supports YMCA values, and helps create a welcoming, inclusive environment for everyone in the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
- Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
- Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Instructors are expected to adhere to the scheduled format and description of the class.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
- Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program and personal goals, mastery of specific skills, or overall health and well-being.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergencies.
- Keep an accurate class attendance record.
- Contact the supervisor with any equipment issues.
- Music selection must be appropriate and in line with the YMCA’s position as both a community and family-based organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Nationally recognized group fitness certification (ACE, NASM, AFAA, ISSA, etc.).
- Deep knowledge of fitness programming and ability to create effective workouts.
- Must be knowledgeable of limitations that may restrict some students’ participation and compensate for those limitations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to motivate and guide participants.
- Ability to modify workouts to accommodate various fitness levels.
- Have or be in the process of acquiring a working knowledge of physiology and kinesiology.
- Must maintain CPR/AED certification as well as be educated in safe -movement and basic first aid for common injuries.
