Group Control Assurance Specialist is part of Finance department, Group Accounting, and the Group Control Assurance function and partners closely with stakeholders across the organization to resolve complex control, governance, and risk-related challenges.

You will be responsible to facilitate the evolution and effectiveness of the SOX internal control framework by leading control design initiatives, challenging existing processes, evaluating significant control deficiencies, and facilitating sustainable remediation solutions. Working in a fast-paced international environment, you will leverage your expertise to influence stakeholders, guide decision-making, and improve control maturity across business functions while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

The position is located at our HQ in Gothenburg, Sweden. We believe in empowerment and support flexible working hours and the possibility to work from home a couple of days per week.

What you'll do

You will lead the continuous enhancement of Polestar's SOX internal control environment by applying advanced professional judgment to complex control matters, driving organizational improvements, and partnering with stakeholders across the business to strengthen risk management and governance practices.

You will:

  • Lead the development and continuous enhancement of risk and control matrices, process documentation, and control frameworks by identifying underlying risks, challenging existing control environments, and driving the implementation of effective and sustainable control solutions.

  • Design and drive the implementation of new controls and control improvement initiatives, partnering with process and control owners to establish practical solutions that address business risks while supporting operational objectives.

  • Facilitate the management testing program by defining testing strategies, ensuring high-quality execution, and driving timely completion across the organization.

  • Evaluate control deficiencies, perform severity assessments, and provide expert analysis on business, financial reporting, and compliance impacts while facilitating stakeholder alignment on remediation priorities.

  • Facilitate the remediation of control deficiencies, significant deficiencies, and material weaknesses by influencing stakeholders, challenging root causes, and monitoring the implementation of sustainable corrective actions.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the organization by delivering specialized training, workshops, and guidance on internal controls, risk mitigation, governance practices, and remediation activities, including matters related to material weaknesses.

  • Identify and lead cross-functional improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and maturity of internal control, governance, and assurance processes across the organization.

  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with senior stakeholders, auditors, consultants, and business leaders to resolve complex issues and support the ongoing development of Polestar's control environment.

Who you are

You are a highly analytical and proactive professional with substantial experience in internal control, risk management, and assurance within complex and regulated environments. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, solving complex challenges, communicating with stakeholders at all organizational levels, and contributing to a growing, fast‑paced organization.

You combine technical expertise with strong business acumen and are capable of independently assessing complex situations, developing practical solutions, and facilitating organizational change.

To be a great fit for this position, we believe you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in internal control, SOX, SEC reporting requirements within a U.S. - listed company environment, risk advisory, assurance, or related areas, ideally gained through a combination of industry and/or Big Four experience.

  • Experience working in multinational organizations.

  • Deep knowledge of risk assessment, process and system scoping, control design, implementation, testing, and control remediation.

  • Experience evaluating control deficiencies, including significant deficiencies and material weaknesses, and presenting conclusions to management.

  • General knowledge of group consolidation and IFRS reporting requirements.

  • Relevant certifications such as CA, CPA, ACCA, CIA, or equivalent are considered an advantage.
