Job DescriptionPurpose
Establish and own the analytics and technical reporting capability within Core Compliance. This senior individual contributor combines analytics engineering depth with the judgement to set direction, translate complex Compliance processes into dependable data products, and drive delivery across organisational boundaries.
The role adds dedicated technical expertise and hands-on delivery capacity to extend what Group Compliance can monitor, analyse and report.
Working closely with the CCSDE Lead and other relevant leads, this person will establish the Core Compliance analytics repository and delivery approach in line with wider Wise analytics best practices. They will own implementation for Core Compliance systems and tools where capability or capacity gaps exist, and lead the coordination of changes that require delivery by established analytics or Engineering teams.
Scope
The role owns the technical quality and delivery of the analytics assets established within its agreed Core Compliance remit. Other analytics and Engineering teams retain their existing responsibilities for shared platforms, datasets and wider analytics delivery. Changes to those capabilities are agreed and implemented with their owners.
Existing analytics teams retain their request-collection processes. This role works within Group Compliance to identify and deliver capability improvements and provide senior technical engagement on analytics issues.
Responsibilities
Own the technical foundations for Core Compliance analytics
- Design and establish the Core Compliance repository and analytics delivery setup, working with Engineering and analytics partners on the use of dbt, Airflow, Snowflake and Lightdash within the existing Wise environment.
- Make and document design decisions for models, transformations, orchestration and reporting: source selection, data grain, keys, historical changes, refresh dependencies and recovery behaviour.
- Establish GitHub development and review practices, automated checks, release procedures, access arrangements and documentation aligned with wider standards. Ensure the setup can support multiple use cases and be maintained by others.
- Agree the interfaces, dependencies and support responsibilities with the teams that own shared infrastructure and upstream datasets.
Deliver and operate models pipelines and reporting
- Write SQL and dbt models, implement workflow orchestration in Airflow, and build reporting in Lightdash on Snowflake for systems and tools within the Core Compliance remit.
- Take work through discovery, design, implementation, validation, release and ongoing improvement. Exercise technical judgement on when to reuse an existing capability, extend a local model or coordinate an upstream change.
- Address practical engineering concerns such as incremental processing, historical accuracy, duplicate or late data, safe reprocessing and query performance where they affect the use case.
- Define and implement checks for completeness, accuracy, freshness and reconciliation, together with actionable failure notifications and documented recovery procedures for the components owned by Core Compliance.
- Investigate issues through the data flow, resolve defects within the role's ownership and work with upstream owners on source or platform issues.
Develop trusted metrics and actionable analysis
- Create ad hoc analysis, reports, dashboards and metrics across CCSDE and CMT, connecting the output to the monitoring, oversight or operational decision it needs to support.
- Translate process concepts such as reporting deadlines, ownership, workflow status, ageing and completion into explicit metric definitions and data models. Account for exceptions and changes over time.
- Validate analytical results against source records, explain material limitations and ensure that colleagues can understand and use the outputs with confidence.
- Establish reusable definitions and reporting assets where needs recur, with documented lineage, ownership and quality expectations. Retain the ability to answer new questions quickly through focused analysis.
Set priorities and lead delivery across teams
- Identify the most valuable gaps in Core Compliance's monitoring and reporting capability and develop a prioritised delivery roadmap with the relevant leads.
- Act as the principal Core Compliance contact on analytics issues, bringing the technical understanding needed to establish scope, resolve unclear ownership and agree implementation approaches with partner teams.
- Drive dependencies and cross-team decisions through to delivery. Make trade-offs between immediate analytical needs, maintainability and partner capacity, and communicate their implications clearly.
- Coordinate updates and implementations owned by other teams while remaining accountable for defining the Core Compliance need and validating that the resulting capability meets it.
Apply AI and agentic workflows with technical judgement
- Use approved AI tools and agent harnesses in analytics and development workflows, including SQL and dbt development, test generation, documentation, data investigation and review.
- Develop useful GitHub-based working practices and agentic workflows that improve delivery speed and consistency, with clear review, testing and access boundaries.
- Evaluate generated code and analytical outputs against source data and expected behaviour. Assess the practical benefit of these workflows and share effective approaches with colleagues.
What you will bring
- Advanced SQL and strong data-modelling skills, with evidence of personally delivering reliable analytical models, pipelines and reporting used in operational decisions.
- Substantial hands-on experience with dbt or equivalent transformation frameworks, orchestration such as Airflow, and a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake. Ability to work effectively across the target stack, including Lightdash.
- Experience establishing or materially improving an analytics repository and delivery process, including GitHub collaboration, testing, review, deployment and documentation.
- Technical depth in data quality, troubleshooting and performance, with the ability to explain design choices and their consequences rather than relying on tool familiarity alone.
- A track record of taking ambiguous business problems through to implementation, setting priorities and influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders without relying on reporting-line authority.
- Strong analytical judgement: defining meaningful metrics, validating evidence and communicating findings and limitations clearly.
- Applied knowledge of AI-assisted analytics, agent harnesses and agentic development workflows, including how to verify outputs and use them responsibly in a collaborative environment.
Bonus Experience
Experience with Core Compliance, monitoring and testing, regulatory reporting workflows, or incident and breach management. Familiarity with data products that support controls, evidence, retention and access requirements is valuable. Financial Crime experience is an additional benefit where relevant to the work.
Additional InformationWhat success looks like
- Critical data products have clear owners, documented definitions and measurable reliability expectations.
- An agreed technical design, Core Compliance repository and working development process aligned with wider Wise analytics best practices, with clear ownership and partner interfaces.
- An initial priority pipeline or model operating reliably, supported by tests, documentation, failure handling and an agreed maintenance approach.
- A set of trusted reports, dashboards and metrics addressing material needs across CCSDE and CMT, with definitions validated by the relevant users.
- A prioritised roadmap and effective delivery arrangements with partner teams, demonstrating increased monitoring and reporting capability within Core Compliance.
