Location preference is Zurich, Switzerland, however other ABB locations in Europe might be considered.
ABB is seeking a strategic Group CIO to lead our global Information Technology function and ensure that technology drives business growth, resilience, and long‑term enterprise value. This role serves as leader of operational excellence and technology coherence across a complex and decentralized business and systems landscape of ABB.
The Group CIO is responsible for operational excellence delivering secure, stable, high‑quality Core IT services globally and ensuring business‑led transformation programs and processes are architecturally sound, sustainable, and embedded into business-as-usual run operations.
The role reports to the Group CFO, with Business CIOs aligned through a dotted line.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Enterprise Architecture & Technology Leadership
Guide the run structure of architecture.
Operational Resilience & Cybersecurity
Guarantee global service reliability, performance, and lifecycle governance.
Own ABB’s cybersecurity posture, risk governance, and IAM strategy.
Lead infrastructure, cloud, integration, disaster recovery, and vendor/SLA governance.
Institutional Capability Building
Strengthen internal capabilities across Customer Experience (CX), platforms, SAP, architecture, data, and cybersecurity.
Reduce reliance on external integrators and embed strong service ownership and deep knowledge base internally.
Financial Governance
Provide full transparency of IT costs and ensure disciplined investment decision‑making.
Support program benefit realization and manage sustainable post‑transformation run costs.
Position IT investment as a strategic capability vs. discretionary spend.
Strategic Business Partnership
Drive IT enablement for M&A integrations and carveouts.
Balance innovation velocity with architectural discipline.
Elevate IT as a strategic partner across the enterprise.
EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND
Prior CIO experience in a multinational industrial environment with proven international leadership experience.
Proven record of leading in decentralized, business models across multiple regions and countries.
Strong business interest and experience.
Demonstrated cybersecurity governance expertise and operational resilience leadership.
Experience integrating large transformation programs into business-as-usual (BAU) operations.
LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES
Capability to influence without direct authority in a decentralized business model.
Strong ability to translate technology architecture into business value.
Proven people leader with an enterprise talent succession‑driven mindset.
Ability to drive simplification and a continuous improvement culture
