This full-time position performs a variety of grounds keeping tasks to maintain the College grounds.  Hours for this position are from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday, and subject to change. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cuts lawns using push power mowers and commercial zero turn riding mowers.
  • Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls using hand and power equipment.
  • Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and to improve growth.  Removes damaged limbs using chain saw.
  • Aerates grass turf, fertilizes, seeds, top dress and weed
  • Irrigation – setup large hose reel sprinkler systems and maintain proper irrigation efficiency  
  • Collects leaves using blowers and vacuums as well as with hand operated rakes.  Bags, shreds or otherwise disposes the leaves.
  • Cleans grounds and removes litter manually and mechanically using ATLV Ride-On Litter Vacuum street cleaning equipment, rotary brush and high output blower implement within interior and exterior of campus
  • Pick up campus recycle and trash receptacles and relocate to large trash containers
  • Shovels snow from campus walks, stairs and driveways.
  • Operates utility vehicles with snow plow and salt spreader, responsible for equipment implement attachments and maintains equipment for proper operation. 
  • Dispenses deicing products on roadways and passage ways to prevent ice buildup
  • Operates tractor utilizing and attaching implements
  • Operates backhoe for general use, moving mulch, sand and topsoil.  Use for large plantings.
  • Plants and waters grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.  Maintains plantings by fertilizing, weeding, trimming, etc.
  • Maintains playing fields and prepares for games by lining fields, soccer, and baseball etc. experience in maintaining infield skins.
  • Sports equipment setup as required
  • Cleans out drainage ditches, rain leaders and culverts
  • Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
  • Performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, hedge trimmer, spreader and snow removal equipment.
  • Safety checks for Student Vehicle (Van’s)
  • Bulk trash removal
  • Service equipment
  • Clean and maintain drainage in window wells
  • Help rental setup and breakdown (Trash, recycle)
  • Campus wide meeting setup and breakdown outside festivities
  • Setup seasonal decorations
  • Moving service of relocating occupants and furniture moves
  • Work safely and take action to ensure that property is safe for students, other residents; co-worker’s and guests.
  • Other duties as requested
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Able to read and understand equipment manuals, safety data sheets (SDS), written instructions, warning labels, etc.
  • Mandatory snow removal duty
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, bend, carry, push and pull to perform the responsibilities of a grounds person.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Prior experience operating and maintaining equipment similar to the equipment described above.
  • Prior grounds keeping experience.
  • Ability to safely operate power equipment.
