Summary Generated by Built In

We are looking for a Ground Station Engineer to design, integrate, and maintain satellite ground station infrastructure. You will be responsible for building and testing antenna rotator systems, developing software to interface RF hardware with servers, ensuring reliable satellite data transfer, and managing licensing and regulatory compliance. This role bridges hardware, embedded software, and cloud systems to ensure smooth satellite-to-cloud data flow.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and integrate antenna rotator systems for tracking satellites.
  • Develop control software for interfacing rotators, radios, and servers.
  • Work closely with in-house RF engineers to integrate radios, amplifiers, and RF chains into the ground station.
  • Ensure seamless data transfer pipelines from ground station RF systems to cloud infrastructure.
  • Support cloud integration (AWS, Azure, or similar) for telemetry and data delivery.
  • Manage frequency coordination, regulatory licensing, and compliance for ground stations.
  • Conduct FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) for ground station electronics/software.
  • Assist in procurement and evaluation of components for ground station infrastructure.
  • Maintain documentation for system design, licensing, integration, and operations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience with satellite ground station systems, embedded development, or control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with antenna rotator controllers, stepper/servo motor drivers, and control loops.
  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or embedded Linux for hardware control.
  • Familiarity with server-side scripting, data transfer protocols, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure).
  • Understanding of RF interfaces (UART, TCP/IP, SDR integrations) and ground station hardware workflows.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and licensing processes for satellite communication.

Nice to Have (Preferred):
  • Experience integrating SDRs with custom control stacks.
  • Prior experience with SatNOGS or other open-source ground station frameworks.
  • Familiarity with orbital mechanics tools for satellite pass prediction (e.g., GPredict, Orekit).
  • Exposure to space mission operations and remote ground station deployment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
