Job Description:

The Ground Operations (Ops) Project Manager supports our Purpose by ensuring all Ground Operations projects adhere to Department and Company methods, processes, tools and best practices for project initiation, execution, and control. They’ll collaborate with Subject Matter Experts, Project Leads, and Leadership at all levels, including across various Operational groups, to ensure the efficient delivery of assigned projects which will usually be of medium to high complexity. The Ground Ops Project Manager is a skilled communicator and strategic thinker who looks forward to driving the future of Ground Operations at Southwest.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, advance, and support Ground Operations and corporate PMO project management standards, practices, and governance
  • Ensure all potential projects undergo Ground Operations Leadership review, approval, and prioritization
  • Define complex project plans for Ground Operations projects and programs including scope, budget, and schedules and execute tasks defined in the project to achieve project goals
  • Proactively monitor risks, issues, and scope, ensuring appropriate level or priority, visibility and escalation
  • Continuously assess project needs and resources to complete projects on time and within budget
  • Proactively communicate with Stakeholders, Sponsors and Project Teams to maintain project alignment
  • Facilitate appropriate coordination and communication of projects/programs and deliverables across Operational departments
  • Lead and facilitate project meetings and presentations to Leadership
  • Gain buy-in for project goals and decisions across the Project Team and other stakeholders
  • Drive the research, analysis and development support for new business opportunities when necessary
  • Support the measurement of multiple strategic and cross-functional opportunities and programs
  • Manage expectations and relationships with different functional groups across the enterprise
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of project management methods, processes, tools and best practices (e.g. PMI)
  • Ability to proactively identify and facilitate the resolution of business problems
  • Possess analytical skills with ability to apply a methodical and logical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to communicate in a compelling and well thought-out manner in all types of interaction.
  • Ability to create a point of view and facilitate project meetings and presentations to Leadership
  • Ability to assume a high level of responsibility and to provide direction in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in
    • Working on medium-large projects with experience managing all phases of large-scale programs
    • Developing and executing business plans and working directly with Department Leaders (VP, Directors) on complex business issues.

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.
  • May require extended work hours per Leader's request
  • May require some business travel

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $100,700 per year to $111,900 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
