About the internshipAs a member of Markham's Graphic Design Team, the Graphic Design Intern will collaborate with designers and teams across the company to support a variety of creative projects. Under the direction of the Graphic Design Team, the intern will have the opportunity to contribute to event branding, digital and print materials, merchandise, and visual experiences.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Researching and sourcing design materials, inspiration, and creative assets
Assisting with the development of designs, logos, branding, and other creative materials for events
Supporting the creation of mock-ups for merchandise, signage, environmental graphics, and event displays
Assisting with digital and print design projects across multiple events and client accounts
Preparing and organizing design files and assets
Supporting project timelines, deadlines, and deliverables as needed
Collaborating with the Graphic Design Team and other Markham teams to bring creative concepts to life
Providing onsite design support for events, when applicable
The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, organized, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and deadlines.
Required/Preferred Experience:
Interest in graphic design, event production, and/or political and nonprofit work
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, including:
Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator
Familiarity with InDesign, After Effects, and/or Premiere Pro
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Familiarity with Keynote
Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, and Sheets)
Experience with Canva
Strong attention to detail and visual consistency
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities efficiently
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Willingness and availability to work occasional evenings and weekends, including during events
Year-long internship program running September through August, providing the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience throughout the academic year.
Approximately 20–25 hours per week (flexible schedule)
Flexible scheduling designed to accommodate academic commitments.
Paid internship at $20.00 per hour.
Opportunities to work additional hours during evenings and weekends based on business needs and event schedules.
Opportunity to extend the internship or transition into future opportunities based on performance, business needs, and academic availability.
Occasional evening and weekend availability may be required to support the team during events and other peak business periods, including election cycles.
While much of the work will be virtual/remote, applicants must be based on the East Coast or able to consistently work East Coast hours. Availability for occasional in-person events and onsite work may be required.
