Position Title: Graphic Designer II
Location: Remote (offsite)
Clearance required: Unclassified. Requires USDOT badge and favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI, low risk / non-sensitive); E-Verify required
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Design and produce professional graphics, covers, and layouts for all magazine components and technical reports, from four-page report covers and spines to complex posters, brochures, and document templates.
- Incorporate text, photos, charts, and illustrations into a cohesive whole and create or enhance supplemental art (drawings, diagrams, line art, logos) to convey complex technical concepts.
- Manage the entire production lifecycle, including figure/photograph selection, retouching, cropping, and sizing, ensuring version and quality control throughout.
- Provide design support for social media, web content, posters, exhibit materials, and displays; reformat and revise finished layouts and text as directed.
- Secure appropriate licensing or written permissions for copyrighted material and ensure all products meet Section 508 accessibility, Federal publishing standards, and program branding.
- Lead small design initiatives and coordinate project workflows, which may include taking project-related photographs.
- Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, or a related field.
- 5-10 years of professional design experience, specifically in print and electronic layout.
- Expert proficiency in industry-standard publications software, specifically Adobe InDesign and Acrobat, on both Windows and Mac operating systems.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with technical periodicals or working within a Federal environment.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, or a related field
- 5-10 years of professional design experience in print and electronic layout
- Expert proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat
- Experience using Adobe InDesign and Acrobat on both Windows and Mac operating systems
- Experience with technical periodicals or working within a federal environment
