Position Overview

This position independently provides grants management support to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. The specialist tracks grant receipt and funding, drafts summary statements, performs price and cost analysis, and applies grants policy and regulations to funding analysis. Responsibilities include reviewing and applying grants management policies and procedures, evaluating the reasonableness, adequacy, and allocability of costs in grant and cooperative agreement financial documents, and maintaining official grant files and related NIH reporting. A Bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience is required, and a background in business management and administration or business economics is preferred.

  • Review and apply grants management policies and procedures for grant programs

  • Evaluate the reasonableness, adequacy, and allocability of costs specified in grant and cooperative agreement financial documents

  • Provide appropriate file documentation for assigned grant applications, including annotated applications (e.g., grant file, annotated correspondence with the grantee, program officer, or other related offices to resolve compliance requirements such as just-in-time materials, F&A rate agreements, or human subject or vertebrate animal concerns), completing the grants management checklist in the GM IMPAC System, preparing budgets using standard NIH GM Workbook budget templates, and drafting the Notice of Award ready for release with appropriate dates, terms, and conditions

  • Conduct correspondence with awardee institutions concerning unusual or unresolved issues to obtain additional information for adequate documentation or to suggest modifications or changes in budgets, in accordance with policies, regulations, and procedures

  • Maintain all official grant files

  • Respond to data call requests and compile reports of information from NIH grant databases and related financial systems, including monthly and quarterly obligation reports, monthly closeout reports, and ad hoc audit requests from the Office of the Inspector General, NIH Office of Extramural Research, or other NIH central offices

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
