JOB SUMMARY: The Grant Writer is responsible for developing grant funding resources for submittal to various funding sources to enhance the tribal community, economic and social development of the Kiowa Tribe. Research private and public funding sources to determine which source best meets the tribe’s needs. Grant Writer prepares grant proposals, familiarizes themselves with an organization’s program directors to coordinate strategies to identify and secure tribal funding.  


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Secures funding resources to support, develop, strengthen, and maintain Tribal programs.
  • Compile data for use in making grant applications; summarizes information from reports, field and file investigations, maps, notes and all other available sources; file interviews and make surveys of conditions on the Kiowa Tribe jurisdiction and in the immediate region which may affect grant applications and administration.
  • Research private and public funding resources to determine which source nest meets the tribe’s needs and prepares major grant applications individually or as member of a staff team assigned to the task.
  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundations and government sources.
  • Research federal and other agencies/organizations rules and regulations for grant proposal requirements.
  • Prepares and submits information for periodic reports to the Executive Director on grant applications activities; prepares other interim reports as needed.
  • Interacts positively and cooperatively as a team member with Program Directors on grant application activities.
  • Track statistics relevant to development and provides department with written materials for reporting purposes.
  • Provides timely advice and information on funding opportunities, requirements and procedures.
  • Adhere to and follow all tribal policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public relations, marketing or closely related field.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in writing major grants for tribal or other governmental agencies.
  • Must have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications: Excel, Publisher, Access, and Outlook.
  • Must possess ability to conduct research, assess data, develop strategies and meet deadlines

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma drivers license and be insurable under the Kiowa Tribe’s motor vehicle policy.
  • Must submit to and pass background investigation and drug testing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to travel when needed.
  • Work is performed in an office environment.
  • Long period of sitting at a desk working with a computer.

Skills Required
