At Heartland, we're looking for a curious and motivated graduate or early-career professional to join our Information Security team in our Digital Transformation business unit. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of technology, cyber security, risk management and banking while working alongside experienced professionals in a modern digital environment.

As a Technology Risk Analyst, you'll help identify, assess and manage technology and cyber security risks that support the safe delivery of critical banking services across Heartland.

What we're looking for

You’ll likely be a recent graduate or early-career professional who enjoys analysing information, solving problems and learning how technology supports business outcomes. With super strong communication skills, your attention to detail is second to none.

You'll have a degree in:

  • Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (Cybersecurity Engineering) or
  • Bachelor of Commerce (Major in Information Systems) or
  • Bachelor of Business in Information Systems or
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Software Engineering / Computer Science

It would be awesome if you had:

  • Master of Cyber Security (MCS)
  • Master of Information Technology (Cyber Security Specialisation)
  • Postgraduate qualification in:
    • Cyber Security
    • Information Security
    • Technology Governance
    • Risk Management

We’d love to see:

  • One to three years of professional experience through employment, internships, placements, or graduate programmes.
  • Exposure to banking, financial services, cyber security, audit, risk, compliance environments.
  • Understanding of technology governance and risk management principles.
  • Experience preparing reports, presentations, or governance documentation.

Technical knowledge

You don't need experience in everything, but familiarity with some of the following is beneficial:

Skills Required

  • Bachelor degree in Cybersecurity Engineering, Information Systems, Software Engineering or Computer Science (listed acceptable degrees)
  • Strong communication skills and high attention to detail
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand
  • One to three years professional experience via employment, internships, placements or graduate programmes
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Cyber Security, Information Security, Technology Governance or Risk Management (Masters or postgraduate)
  • Exposure to banking, financial services, cyber security, audit, risk or compliance environments
  • Familiarity with risk assessments, control design, third-party risk, operational risk, software supply chain risk
  • Familiarity with identity and access management, MFA, PAM, vulnerability management and secure software development concepts
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (Azure, M365), Windows/Linux, enterprise networking and DevSecOps concepts
  • Experience with reporting and data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI)
  • Entry-level certifications such as ISC2 CC, Security+, ITIL Foundation, ISO 27001 Foundation
