IMPORTANT:
Graduate Assistants cannot work as Student workers or in any other position type while serving as Graduate Assistants. They can, however, be split between departments as a GA for both departments if the combined hours do not exceed 20 hours per week. Graduate assistants cannot work during breaks and cannot start before the semester begins (meaning they will not be processed as a student worker during “interim” periods). The hourly rate is set by the Provost's office and varies by level (Master’s and Doctoral).
SUMMARY:
The Graduate Assistant Non-Teaching of College of Business will assist with administrative tasks that are not teaching or research-related. The Graduate Assistant will support the College of Business by handling clerical administrative tasks and providing excellent customer service to students, faculty, and the general public. This position will help achieve skills and areas of development in customer service, time management, critical thinking, and communication.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with answering telephones, faxing, filing correspondence, running errands on campus, stuffing envelopes, and making copies.
- Greet office guests, answer questions, and direct them to the proper individual(s).
- Create and maintain documents and spreadsheets.
- Prepare materials for programs and events.
- Collaborate and communicate with supervisors.
- Increase skill set by participating in various projects with staff.
- Participate in a mentorship program to develop personal marketable skills
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Must be an active student at East Texas A&M University. Must be at the graduate level.
- Knowledge / Skills: Punctual. Good computer skills (For example, Microsoft Word and Excel).
- Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to handle confidential matters and to be professional. Ability to work well with groups of people.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred field of study related to the College of Business
- Prior administrative or office-related experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with customer service
