REPORTS TO

Grade Control Support Manager

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

If you know grade control technology and love solving problems where the work actually happens, this is your kind of role. As a Grade Control Support Specialist, you’ll help customers get more from Topcon, Trimble and John Deere systems—from first setup and calibration to field troubleshooting, training and ongoing support. You’ll be the person who turns complex technology into practical results and keeps jobsites moving.

WHAT YOU’LL MAKE HAPPEN

  • Solve problems fast. Diagnose hardware, software, connectivity, configuration and application issues remotely and on site—then own each issue through resolution.
  • Put systems to work. Set up, configure, test and calibrate 2D/3D machine control, base/rover systems, field computers and lasers.
  • Support the jobsite. Assist with installations, commissioning, software and firmware updates, application testing and initial operation.
  • Build customer confidence. Deliver clear, hands-on training for safe operation, routine care and basic troubleshooting across a wide range of experience levels.
  • Show what’s possible. Lead demonstrations and workshops, and represent SmartSite at trade shows, customer events, schools, colleges and industry outreach programs.
  • Keep the details sharp. Maintain accurate service records, system configurations, inventory, demonstrations, travel and follow-up activity.
  • Work as one team. Partner with SmartSite, service, parts, sales, rental and technical teams—and escalate complex issues to manufacturers or vendors when needed.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3–5 years of experience with grade control and grade management technology, including Topcon, Trimble and/or John Deere systems is preferred.
  • Specialized training in GPS/GNSS, grade control, machine control, surveying or construction technology is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with field support, system setup, calibration, operator training and technical troubleshooting.
  • A practical, methodical approach to problem-solving—and the ability to explain technical concepts in clear, everyday language.
  • Strong customer service, communication, organization, documentation and follow-through.
  • Comfort working independently in the field while collaborating closely with a broader team.
  • A valid driver’s license and eligibility under company auto policy requirements.

Preferred: An associate degree or technical credential in a related field. Equivalent education and experience will also be considered.

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT

VARIETY IN THE FIELD. DEEP TECHNICAL WORK. VISIBLE CUSTOMER IMPACT.

You’ll work across a seven-branch Pennsylvania and New York territory, expand your expertise through company and manufacturer training, and help customers turn sophisticated technology into safer, smarter, more productive work.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This is a hands-on field role with frequent travel throughout Pennsylvania and New York, including occasional overnight travel to branches, jobsites, trade shows, outreach events and manufacturer training. Flexible or irregular hours may sometimes be needed to respond to urgent customer needs.

The work environment varies across offices, shops, yards and active construction sites. The role may involve standing, walking, bending, climbing on equipment, using tools, lifting within safe-work guidelines, and working around noise, dust, weather, uneven terrain and moving heavy equipment. Required PPE and safety practices must be followed at all times. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals.
