About Ameren Illinois
Ameren Illinois provides electric transmission and distribution service and natural gas distribution service. Every day, we deliver electricity to 1.2 million electric and 816,000 natural gas customers in central and southern Illinois. We deliver safe, reliable energy to more than 1,200 communities.
The Government Relations Representative maintains and cultivates favorable relations through personal contact with elected state officeholders, appointed state officials and their staffs. Maintains relationships with government affairs representatives of utilities and other organizations to develop coalitions in support of Ameren’s positions on legislative and policy issues.
Key responsibilities include:
Prepare and assist senior government relations representatives in presenting position papers and testimony to appropriate legislators, committees, and other stakeholders.
Maintain relationships with legislators and staff, legislative representatives of utilities and other organizations.
Collaborate with Ameren's Sr Government Relations Representatives and lobbyists to develop coalitions in support of the company's positions on policy issues and to implement strategy.
Recognize issues, proposals, regulations and legislation that may impact Ameren.
Interact with company experts to determine the corporate position on such matters and effectively communicate the position to elected officeholders, appointed officials and their staff.
Track progress of all relevant legislation, legislative hearings and stakeholder meetings on a daily basis.
Communicate policy and policy changes to company experts and stakeholders, as appropriate to determine the company's position.
Effectively communicate and advocate for policy positions to legislators, staff and key stakeholders.
Qualifications
Government Relations Representative-Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required. Three or more years of relevant lobbying, legislative, or government relations experience required.
Sr. Government Relations Representative-Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Government or similar is preferred. Specialization in Political Science or Business Administration discipline preferred. Seven or more years of relevant lobbying and/or legislative experience, communications, supervisory or similar experience required. Previous experience in working with utility industrial customers as well as experience with utility operations of power marketing, generation and/or transmission and delivery preferred. Direct supervisory experience preferred.
Other: Ability to work effectively with competing priorities and stressful situations. Ability to identify potential issues and initiate course correction to deliver desired outcome. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills required. Must have demonstrated ability to work as a team with experience in negotiating difficult issues. Willingness to travel and work irregular and long hours unexpectedly and as required. Must have strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Compensation Range:
$86,400.00 - $199,500.00
* This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends upon applicant's credentials.
At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
