A Snapshot
As a key member of the Government Relations and Public Policy team the Government Relations Associate Director will be based in Tokyo, and will report to the Senior Director Government Relations based in Sydney, working closely with various teams and leadership across the Asia Pacific region, making your mark in a number of ways:
- You will lead the Government engagement strategy in Japan to ensure this leading Australian technology company proactively develops and maintains positive relationships with key external stakeholders and that its reputation as a trusted industry leader and investor in the country continues to strengthen and grow.
- You will help shape AirTrunk’s public policy positions by understanding the concerns and thinking of Government and those who influence it.
- You will help AirTrunk build allies and become a trusted advisor to relevant Governments across Japan.
Your Day to Day
- Develop and deliver proactive engagement plans with key government stakeholders including identifying engagement opportunities for the company's leaders.
- Represent AirTrunk in working level government meetings with officials, ministerial contacts, industry stakeholders and not for profit organisations.
- Monitor government policy developments in Japan affecting AirTrunk’s business.
- Identify current and future policy and regulatory risks for AirTrunk’s operations.
- Working with the Director Public Policy, help shape the public policy agenda including identifying and building the case/solutions for advocacy priorities, and localising for Japan.
- Advocate to government and policy makers AirTrunk’s position which is well informed by research and analysis of policy issues relevant to the business.
- Attend relevant industry events and meetings and represent the business with external industry bodies including participating in relevant working groups and committees.
- Represent AirTrunk in industry associations and third-party alliances to advance AirTrunk’s policy positions and reputation within Japan.
- Manage local Government Relations consultants and other vendors to support AirTrunk’s policy advocacy.
Requirements
- 8+ years' experience in a policy, political or government role. This might include the private sector or in a parliamentary or ministerial office, or Government department.
- Strong understanding of internal workings of government, including political or parliamentary processes.
- Exceptional dual language (English and Japanese) written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional project management skills and experience in working in cross-functional teams.
- A high degree of autonomy, drive and resilience.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and capacity to prioritise conflicting tasks.
