As the Government Development Director, you will cultivate and maintain long-lasting strategic relationships to drive C Spire’s growth in the State and Local Government and Education (SLED) verticals. You will work to position C Spire as a trusted partner in every relevant opportunity across all product lines. Your role will include building strategic alignment with key decision-makers, driving net-new business, supporting account planning, and ensuring that our solutions are competitive, cost-effective, and aligned with client needs.

Responsibilities:

What You Will Do
In all of your duties, you will have a relentless, obsessive, yet disciplined approach to manage all details to perfection and deliver desired results.

  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with new and existing SLED accounts within C Spire’s footprint and targeted expansion states.

  • Build alignment with key decision-makers that influence SLED procurement and partnerships.

  • Collaborate with Sales to gain introductions to SLED leadership and develop strong customer relationships.

  • Increase awareness of C Spire’s brand, products, services, and partner ecosystem within the SLED community.

  • Identify and participate in SLED-related conferences, tradeshows, and associations to promote brand visibility and product awareness.

  • Actively work events with Sales to generate leads and create follow-up opportunities with SLED leadership.

  • Proactively engage customers when new opportunities arise to position C Spire favorably ahead of RFPs and procurement releases.

  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Finance, and Product teams to design competitive, cost-effective solutions for SLED projects.

  • Partner with the RFP Manager to identify opportunities, conduct research, and coordinate cross-functional responses to strategic RFPs and contract bids.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

In addition to that, we require:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of professional experience.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in sales, business development, IT management, or a similar relationship-focused role.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% and perform effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and collaboration platforms such as Teams and WebEx.

  • Experience collaborating with internal teams and external IT product/service providers.

  • Experience in a SLED environment with the ability to adapt to evolving business strategies.

  • Established positive relationships with government and education accounts.

  • Familiarity with strategic account planning and sales enablement.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use computer keyboard and/or mouse while viewing computer screen. Must be able to travel extensively (up to 50%) including overnight trips, and work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
