As a GNC Engineer Level 3 or Level 4 located in Chandler, AZ, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

In this role, you will contribute to the success of vital defense systems that protect the nation by supporting cutting-edge development of upcoming long-range missile defense interceptors, targets, space launch, and strike vehicles.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Your Role and Impact:

  • Provide priority navigation technical contributions for multiple programs (missile‑defense targets, next‑generation interceptors, other missile and rocket projects)
  • Develop and analyze inertial, satellite‑based, and integrated navigation system solutions
  • Perform customer‑provided requirement analysis for navigation systems
  • Support flight‑software development and testing within simulation environments
  • Collaborate with the Navigation, Analysis and Simulation group to drive GNC engineering outcomes
  • Contribute to design reviews, trade studies, and technical documentation for GNC aspects
  • Ensure compliance with defense standards and schedule for long‑range missile‑defense interceptors, targets, space‑launch, and strike vehicles
  • Other duties as assigned

This position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company.

This position can be filled at either a Level 3 or Level 4.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.  Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Experience with Inertial, Satellite-Based, or Integrated Navigation Systems

Basic Qualifications for Level 4:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.  Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Experience with Inertial, Satellite-Based, or Integrated Navigation System, IMU modeling, GPS sensor familiarity

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance, or higher
  • Experience in strategic navigation
  • Experience with the C++, MATLAB, Simulink, and Python programming languages
  • Experience with the Linux Operating System
  • Experience with relevant navigation sensors including IMUs, GPS receivers, and/or radar altimeters
  • Experience in testing, designing, and/or reviewing data from Kalman Filters
  • Experience in navigation algorithms design and/or review
  • Experience designing, testing, and/or reviewing data for navigation systems for launch vehicles
  • Experience in Modeling, Simulation, Analysis and Requirements Definition of Navigation Systems
  • Excellent communication skills

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards 

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
