Valmont has an exciting opportunity for a Global Stewardship Engineer, reporting to the Global Director – Environment & Sustainability. This role will encompass product stewardship, chemicals management and substitution, regulatory reporting, and customer disclosures on a global scale. The candidate, under direction of reporting manager, will assess regulatory developments and customer expectations, and shall work closely with applicable internal functionalities of the enterprise to develop, implement, and ensure compliance of Valmont’s facilities and products. The Global Stewardship Engineer will also be responsible for operationalizing the company’s supply chain management platform to collect, store and access prohibited, restricted and declarable substances at both a material and part-number level to support RoHS, REACH, TSCA, CA Prop 65, and other chemicals management programs. Conflict Minerals (tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold) data acquisition and reporting are also an expected responsibility of this role.
Essential Functions:
- This position reports to the Global Director – Environment & Sustainability; and may also work collaboratively under direct supervision of other EHSS management functions as well. This position has no direct reports but will influence indirectly at the operational level.
- Assume a proactive role in the development and implementation of Valmont’s enterprise sustainability software platform addressing prohibited, restricted and declarable substances regulations (REACH, ROHS, TSCA, CA Prop 65).
- Utilizing a third-party regulatory service provider, monitor global chemical substances regulations to assess impacts to operations material feedstocks and authorization of use scenarios. Convey this information to the operations on a regular cadence through web-based outreach trainings, newsletters a/o other communication channels.
- Actively participate in regulatory agency, SDOs and industry trade groups (MAPI) and professional associations (Product Stewardship Society) to ensure sound and practicable science is engrained in the development of new regulations and industry standards.
- Development and implementation of a global Chemicals Management Standard, including but not limited to a chemical approvals process, chemical risk assessments, REACH SVHC internal reporting, and chemical substitutions. Manage a third-party Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database to support the program.
- Expand Valmont’s stewardship program through selection and implementation of LCA software capable of meeting Valmont’s global needs in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Ensure strategic product LCAs remain accurate and current to changing regulatory and manufacturing parameters.
- Develop the policies, programs, processes and tools to support generation of ISO 14025 environmental product declarations (EPDs) in accordance with upcoming European Digital Product Passport and Circular Economy regulations. Produce product carbon footprint (PCF) data for key product lines.
- Participate in data collection, entry, review and submittal of stewardship information pertaining to select Environmental Social & Governance (ESG) reporting frameworks, including but not limited to S&P SAM, CDP, ISS, etc. May also interface with Investor Relations to provide functional-role content on an as-needed basis.
- Participate in developing a roadmap for transitioning Valmont’s stewardship programs to a proactive and eventually predictive approach.
- Cross-functional collaboration with the company’s global business areas and roles related to product stewardship activities.
- Relationship development and participation on or building of teams in support of stewardship and sustainability goals/objectives. Must be able to collaborate and influence without authority where necessary.
- Preparation of presentations for webinars, meetings and reports, and assist in writing submission documents for technical proposals.
- This role requires up to 25% travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- BS degree with 2+ years of relevant technical experience or Associate’s degree with 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
- Understanding of enterprise-level chemical product stewardship approaches and advisory tools.
- Experience with LCA software and creating product declarations.
- Systems-based thinker capable of visualizing and supporting the overall stewardship vision.
- Problem-solver who offers solutions to identified obstacles.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Some domestic and international travel may be required to perform job functions. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
