The Opportunity
Pharma Technical Technology (PTT) in Pharma Technical Operations (PT) enhances product management by integrating safety, maintenance, performance optimization, and scalable processes.
Roche’s global Manufacturing Science and Technology (gMSAT) within PTT manages commercial products, focusing on Large and Small Molecules, and oversees new technologies, standardization, and risk mitigation.
The Principal Product Steward ensures technical industrialization and product health throughout the commercial lifecycle, driving validation, robustness, cost-effectiveness, and compliance.
For steady-state products, they manage quality, reliability, and strategic goals, leading technical teams, resolving issues, and representing products in key forums and interactions.
- Develop, lead, and execute technical industrialization and product health activities to ensure successful product launches and maintain robustness throughout the product lifecycle from launch to divestment
- Coordinate and own tech transfer process gap assessments, integrating identified risks into the risk log, developing mitigation strategies, and identifying, managing, and closing technical risks through risk logs. Lead root cause analysis for DS or DP-related issues and ensure SHE check points and derived solutions are implemented
- Develop and implement master plans for DS and DP, ensuring alignment with technical roadmaps and continuous improvement opportunities. Strategically manage post-launch ramp-up to ensure sustainable scale-up and long-term product success
- Deliver on high-impact global initiatives, ensuring portfolio-wide risk mitigation and alignment with Roche’s technical and operational priorities. Ensure proactive coordination with Quality to meet quality milestones across the commercial lifecycle and drive start-to-finish ownership of control processes for internal and external sites
- Manage and report on functional product health metrics, coordinate and prepare for Product Quality Management Reviews (PQMR), and provide global MSAT representation on various governance committees and decision-making bodies. Lead and represent technical input in governance forums and escalate significant quality issues and risks
- Lead a matrix team of senior experts and engineers for resilient or established products in a steady state, ensuring the successful delivery and implementation of new technologies and commercial technical product lifecycle initiatives. Work with other gMSAT and PTT teams and governance bodies as required
- Define and deliver team outcomes in alignment with One Pharma Strategy, PT promises, and PTT/PT outcomes. Enable appropriate squad staffing, resource allocation, standards, project prioritization, processes, and work package definition for each individual to ensure successful outcomes
Who you are
- B.S. or M.S. degree in a scientific discipline (biotechnology, pharmacy, biology, etc.), with 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in platform-specific product or process development or manufacturing operations. A PhD is advantageous
- Proven record in Drug Substance or Drug Product manufacturing, technology industrialization, and process development in biological molecules. Recognized authority in the field by peers and functional leaders, with demonstrated experience in pharmaceutical quality systems, industry guidelines, technology transfer, process validation, and regulatory submission requirements
- Significant cross-functional matrix leadership experience utilizing advanced VACC leadership skills, along with excellent strategic planning, decision-making, business and financial acumen, and the ability to influence, collaborate, and network effectively
- Advanced communication skills to define and articulate team deliverables to senior leadership. Deep understanding of patient needs and patient-centricity as key elements of design and delivery
- Willingness to travel less than 10% as required
