The Global Engineering Leader is a Director responsible for managing and leading multiple global teams of product engineers and technicians that provide engineering support with technology and product development, sustaining engineering and aftermarket support. This role is accountable, in partnership with product management, for the design and engineering support for the at least $55M direct and $100M indirect control and isolation smart valve business globally. The Global Engineering Leader of Smart Products reports directly to the FCD Director of Automation and Control Valve Engineering. This director level role represents Flowserve at executive board levels in digital industry organizations. This leader must have the ability to cultivate an innovative, enterprise and global mindset in their organization and the ability to work seamlessly with FCD sales, product management and operations. This person will have direct involvement with customers and end users and will be required to develop strong customer relationships. The leader must possess proven leadership capability and a strong technical background with digital products which enable smart valve function across the industrial market space. Exposure to industrial automation, digital control, and communication protocols including IOT is required. The leader is responsible to retain and attract top talent, support training and development of engineers, and manage the performance of the smart product engineering teams globally (two sites in US, two or more sites in EMA, two or more sites in APAC; direct and matrix span of 30 to 50).

    Accountabilities:

    • Work with sales and product management to set direction and strategy for the smart product team.

    • Responsible for executing digital roadmap for all FCD products

    • Support product initiative projects for new technologies and products and manage improvements to existing products.

    • Lead and manage the team of smart products engineering leaders and provide direction for their engineering and operational needs and requirements

    • Utilizes experience and knowledge to manage the quality, innovation, user experience and timely execution of development initiatives for major Flowserve smart products such as Logix, PMV, Limitorque and RedRaven.

    • Manage and drive continual improvement of the smart products engineering teams. Monitor key performance indicators and establish action plans to maintain or improve performance and be a part of a global team. Optimize engineering capacity by running the RCCP process for the full smart products engineering team. Work with the central Global Engineering teams as needed to drive global Flowserve goals inside the engineering teams.

    • Oversee the development and training of engineers and technicians to establish Flowserve as a developer of industry recognized talent.

    • Globally support sales, production, QA, supply chain, assembly and test benches and aftermarket in the operations.

    • Help ensure positive customer experiences by providing required support to the MRO End User Services organization. Support root cause analysis of equipment failures and technical customer issues.

    • Make effective use of capacity planning tools (RCCP and Engineering OTD) and business forecasts to identify and address current and anticipated gaps in engineering capacity for all projects. Balance the efforts to optimize the usage of low-cost engineering resources as appropriate to augment engineering capacity.

    • Continually develop and implement improvements within the team to improve operational performance aligned with corporate objectives and customer requirements. Improve working processes, procedures, and define possible areas for standardization and the appropriate usage of low-cost engineering resources to improve productivity of the engineering organization.

    • Participate in improvement project activities such as Lean manufacturing, lean practitioner etc.; to continually improve the operational performance for the smart products teams.

    • Develop and implement personnel development plans including mid and year end PMPs, career profiles, and succession planning for all personnel. Identify training needs and work to make training available to staff.

    • Support HR in new talent acquisition and assessment.

    • Support product management in developing training programs for sales and service people for new product families

    • Create product documentation for IOM manuals. 

    • Lead design and construction of manufacturing lines for new products and manage support of production fixtures for assembly and testing.

    • Implement and maintain product design program meeting ISO-9001 certification requirements

    • Ensure products are safe and compliant with appropriate industry requirements including but not limited to FM, CSA, INMetro, IECex, ATEX, CE, CCC. Ensure proper due diligence in processes and documentation to support that compliance.

    Position Requirements:

    • Engineering, Computer Science or Industrial Automation degree plus 15+ years of track record in delivering and sustaining products in some of the following areas – control valves, isolation valves, actuation and automation, smart valve devices, communication protocols, industrial asset management including monitoring, database archival and retrieval and analytics for real time and predictive diagnostics.

    • Track record of at least 8 years of managing people, and at least 5 years of managing global teams in matrix organizations

    • Track record with the translation of complex digital requirements into compelling products that delight customers and end users by utilizing innovative development and deployment of new and existing technology; ability to create strong Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio to drive differentiation

    • Extensive knowledge of and experience with industrial automation standards (such as FDT 3 and FDI Specifications), digital communication protocols, Digital Twin, IOT and Industry 4.0 / Factory of the Future.

    • Ability to manage and lead teams in an Agile way allowing fast adjustment to new market direction. Track record in setting up and managing software development using modern Agile technologies. 

    • Must be self-starting and have motivational skills and a high sense of urgency to drive and execute production and development schedules.

    • Interpersonal skills are critical for optimum communication with internal and external customers including the Flowserve management team and employees.

    • Ability to produce professional engineering reports and presentations. They must also be able to deliver these presentations to management teams, industry committees, employees, and customers

    • Ability to travel globally approximately 20-30% of the time

    Preferred Experience:

    • Excellent time management and organization skills

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be Fluent in English verbally as well as in written communication. Other language skills are beneficial.

    • Experience with involvement in industry standards organizations and forums.
