Global Director Project Management

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced manager project management, passionate about community building, to join our team as the Global Director of Project Management at Fugro’s head office in Leidschendam. This role offers the opportunity to strategically oversee our global project management capabilities and drive consistency and continuous improvement across the organisation.

In this role you will be part of the Operational Excellence leadership team, managing a small team of BPOs/BPEs (approx. 2 individuals) and reporting into the Global Director Operational Excellence. You will be working closely with our regional project directors, setting one standard for our project management community of more than 500 professionals. 

Travel will be integral to your role, involving 6 to 9 trips per year, each lasting about a week. You will visit our 4 regions to build relationships with teams, engage in meaningful conversations, and gain a thorough understanding of our business to enhance our project management organisation.

Your Role & Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and improve tools to support Project Managers, such as the PM Handbook, Project Controls workbook & app, IFS, DOME, SHAPE, Avalon, etc.
• Strengthen our community of PM professionals; ensure they know who to approach with questions and promoting collaboration.
• Coordinate regional/Business Lines project reviews with regional teams and globally implement key findings and lessons learned with the Operational Excellence team.
• Maintain a PM champions network, ensure up-to-date tools are understood and utilized, and implement a train-the-trainer philosophy.
• Maintain our career path framework for Project Management with associated competencies and ensure continuous improvement and identification of our training (requirements).

What You'll Need to Thrive in This Role

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
• Expertise in Project Management, with at least 10 years of experience, including 3 years in a managerial role with a large scope of influence.
• Lean Six Sigma/ Black belt certification
• Experience with complex projects of varying contract types and solid understanding of contractual terms and conditions, including risk assessment and mitigation.
• Experience working in a services industry is a plus.
• You excel at challenging the status quo, are naturally inquisitive, and consistently seek improvements while keeping processes straightforward for all stakeholders.
• You are a great communicator with excellent English language skills (both written and oral) who feels comfortable in an international & multi-stakeholder environment.
