Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will be one of two Global Category Managers responsible for the management of the cabinets category for ABB’s Traction division. This includes both the cabinets themselves and related parts. You will support the strategic needs of all locations of division Traction by defining the sourcing strategy, securing a suitable supplier base, negotiating pricing and contractual conditions and initiating cost reduction initiatives. You will collaborate closely with colleagues from Engineering, Supplier Quality Management and Operative Procurement.

This role is contributing to the global Traction Division. Main stakeholders are Engineering, R&D, Product Management and Project management.
You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Planning and implementing sourcing strategies in line with the business strategy and ensuring that the supply base/suppliers have the capability and capacity to meet current and future business requirements.
  • Ensuring identification, investigation, and selection of appropriate suppliers (focusing on quality, delivery, cost, and sustainability) in collaboration with the relevant functions (Supplier Quality Management, Engineering) and in accordance with company policies.
  • Negotiating project pricing and sourcing frame agreements with main suppliers, and periodically renewing price lists.
  • Identifying cost reduction or cost avoidance potential and triggering the necessary activities to materialize the potential savings, by working together with Engineering and/or Product Management to (re-)evaluate the design and the cost drivers.
  • Managing the relationship with the suppliers as well as the relevant internal stakeholders.

Qualifications for the role

  • University degree in Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • minimum 10 years of experience in strategic Category/Sourcing Management with demonstrable affinity for mechanical components or at minimum 10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrable affinity for commercial topics.
  • Experience in sourcing and supplier management within the mechanical components category. Knowledge of cabinets and railway industry products will be an asset.
  • Proven experience in supplier negotiations, contract management, and driving cost optimization initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of strategic sourcing methodologies and supply chain management processes.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken. German language skills will be considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
