Job Description SummaryOpportunity to join a world class team of high performing technical experts that will help set the standards and direction for our Global Supply Chain for advanced manufacturing technologies. Advanced Manufacturing Engineering is recognized as a key manufacturing technology leader across GE Healthcare. This role will drive the vision for automation application and practices as well as advanced test development applications while providing regional leadership and planning for the introduction of automation for new product development and existing manufacturing as part of a global Automation COE.
Senior Automation AME Leader is responsible for working with our MR Magnet business to identify, define, develop, and deliver automation applications utilizing key suppliers and integrators in deploying solutions for existing product lines, NPI’s (New Product Introductions) and product transfers. This role is also responsible for defining wing to wing advanced test development, data collection/data analysis/decision strategy for production test process. Leading test data analytical and brilliant factory activities using proven technologies and vested approaches and methods. This role will be key for identifying new technologies and solutions, deploying these applications, and supporting production applications while working as part of the cross functional teams from engineering to manufacturing within our MR Magnet business

Job Description

Key responsibilities/essential functions include:

  • The scope of automation will cover both Fixed and Collaborative automation including all supporting automation technologies.

  • Work with the MR Magnet site to define/develop/design automation concepts, work with key vendors/integrators to deliver cutting edge solutions, perform proof of concepts, and work with the local teams to deploy automation into production.

  • Will work to identify high ROI applications, conducting feasibility studies, and DOE’s (design of experiments) to develop concepts and reduce risk in automation.

  • Lead, manage, and develop key automation solutions for NPI, product transfer programs, and critical mfg. productivity projects.

  • Support Industry 4.0 initiatives for machine connectivity and our digital transformation driving data driven decisions and efficient mfg. operations.

  • Support the effort to create standard automation Equipment/User Requirement Specifications to further drive component standardization, data standards for brilliant factories, and standard safety risk assessments.

  • Work extensively to leverage and project manage outside vendors/integrators to deliver automation solutions to our various manufacturing plants.

  • Research’s, studies, and proposes use of new technologies, processes, and industry trends, helping GEHC stay current with new automation innovations.

  • Create training materials, provide technical training on automation process technologies, and take part in training deployment strategies across the business.

  • Applying creative solutions and ideas, driving productivity and quality in the manufacturing of our products utilizing key automation technologies like collaborative robots, AI, AIV’s, and traditional automation techniques.

  • Be a part of our New Product Introduction process (NPI’s) to influence designs to incorporate design for automation standards so low-cost solutions are part of initial production release. 

  • The scope of Automation Processes includes Electronics Assembly Automation, Collaborative Robots (Universal Robots, Omron, Fanuc, ABB...), Fixed automation, digital torque, Visual 2 & 3D Inspection, OEE, digital dash boards, Autonomous Intelligent Vehicles (AIV’s), Data Collection, AI, general automation technologies, integration of PLC’s, HMI’s, Motion, and supporting our Brilliant Factory initiatives by connecting the physical process to digital information.

  • Responsible for design and construction of test/process automation, instrumentation systems and development of test/process automation/AI-data science software.

  • Leads to define DFT and wing to wing test/process automation/data collection-analysis-decision making strategy for production testing process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Automation, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical degree.

  • 10+ years’ experience in using, applying, and deploying various automation technologies from concept phase thru final implementation into production.

  • Proven track record in leading large-scale modernization and automation projects.

  • Expertise in PLCs (Rockwell, Siemens), SCADA, MES, ERP, and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP).

  • Strong understanding of OT/IT integration, cybersecurity, and data analytics.

  • Project management skills with internal/external integrators with demonstrated experience owning processes / growing capability in yield, quality, and capacity.

  • Demonstrated program or project management skills of internal/external integrators.

  • Demonstrated electro-mechanical design skills.

  • Experience developing technical documents - ability to write / perform FMEA’s, Equipment Risk Assessments, ERS’s (Equipment Requirements Specifications), Validation Plans.

  • Demonstrated experience with tester/automation development and equipment specification setting.

  • Demonstrated depth of LabVIEW or C++ or Python programming skill

  • Experience with controls automation design and safety standards;  AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent, NFPA 79, RIA15.06, and other relevant industry standards.

  • Willing to travel domestic and internationally up to 25% of the time.

Desirable Skills:

  • Masters/PHD (or equivalent) in technical concentration/field.

  • 12+ years’ experience in the design, build, programming, and deployment of automation

  • Mechanical design experience in automation equipment such as AutoCAD or Solidworks.

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting, analytical and planning skills.

  • Domain expertise in the automation and controls technologies field.

  • Ability to work independently across our diverse business and manufacturing lines.

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills (written and verbal) to all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to identify and implement Best Practices.

  • Demonstrated experience owning production processes / growing capability in yield, quality, and capacity.

  • Experienced in robotic system designing.

  • Experienced in data-based process optimization. 

  • Experienced in development with Unix/Linux system.

  • Experienced in development with data science, image processing, machine learning.

  • Experienced in development with NI PXI test platform.

  • Experienced in development with Ethernet, CAN bus, Modbus,DDS protocol

  • Demonstrated basic Electronic, DFT and Automation solution design skills

  • Substantial industrial experience in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Six-sigma DMAIC & DFSS certified.

  • ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP)

  • PMP (Project Management Professional)

  • Experiences in Process Intensive manufacturing.

  • Solid working knowledge of GEHC QMS procedures for GMP.

  • Experienced developing tools and templates.

  • Experience working with global teams.
