This is an Accountant III position located in the General Ledger Unit of the Department of Transportation Financial Management Division. There are two primary purposes for this position:
This position provides advanced accounting analysis by conducting research and preparing reports related to NCDOT’s general ledger functions. Position provides technical guidance to other accountants on the team, and professional roles in the field, related to general ledger accounting in accordance with all generally accepted accounting principles. Position serves as the business liaison and communicates business requirements to developers, project managers, and platform administrators engaged in SAP/FMIS platform upgrades and integrations. Work also involves creating analytical forecasting tools and financial reports to advise agency executive leadership and the review and preparation of SOPs tying all general ledger activities to other finance functions.
This position is to manage daily, monthly, and yearly controlling functions and cost disbursement activities. Statewide Time Entry is managed in the controlling module and is basic to cost assessment, Federal billing and fair reporting in general. Scheduling and operation of duties on demand are a critical part of the job responsibilities. There is a heavy requirement for involvement with system testing and interaction with functional team members, fellow employees, DOT management and field personnel.

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC15 $55,221 - $96,639


Management prefers applicants with the following:


  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) practices.
  • Knowledge of current accounting and financial management systems.
  • Experience interpreting and applying complex Federal and State fiscal regulations.
  • Experience in using accounting judgement and theory to independently resolve fiscal issues, provide technical guidance, and present results of analysis to program administrators

Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution with 18 semester hours of accounting coursework; and four years of professional accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive or analytical accounting, financial statements and reports; or equivalent combination of education and experience
