Location: Keyauwee Program Center - Sophia, NC. Regular travel to other camp and office locations in Western and Central NC. Onsite housing as an optional benefit is available as a taxable benefit but it is not a requirement of the job to live on site.

Salary: $33,000 - $39,000 yearly

The Opportunity

Our camp properties are magical places where girls explore the outdoors, develop leadership skills, and create lifelong memories. We are looking for a dedicated Camp Ranger to steward our site and ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for all visitors. The Camp Ranger is responsible for the year-round maintenance, security, and safety of all buildings, grounds, and equipment. You will ensure that camp facilities are fully operational, clean, and prepared for troop camping, summer camp, and special events. As the "face of the camp”, you will act as a host to volunteers, families, and staff, fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive outdoor experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Property Maintenance, Upkeep & Property Development: Perform routine maintenance such as landscaping, building upkeep and maintenance, trail and road maintenance, pool management, painting signs, etc. Ensure routine preventative maintenance and repairs are performed and logged on camp vehicles and heavy equipment. Provide onsite coordination and assistance for property development.
  • Safety & Security: Conduct preventative risk management inspections of all structures, trails, and program areas (e.g., archery ranges, pool area, waterfronts). respond to emergencies and actively monitor and maintain security to reduce risk of vandalism or theft.
  • Hosting & Customer Service: Greet users and provide logistical support to Girl Scout troops and guest groups to ensure a high-quality experience.
  • Inventory & Administration: Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment. Assist with budget planning for building and equipment maintenance.
  • Compliance: Ensure camp operates according to GSUSA, American Camp Association (ACA) standards, and local/state regulations.

Requirements

What You Bring (Qualifications)

  • Experience and Education: The ideal person for this role will have 3-5+ years’ experience in property management, facilities maintenance, or a similar trade-based role. You will also have a High-school Diploma or equivalency. License or certification in at least one trade is preferred but not required.
  • Skills: Demonstrated competency with power equipment, tractors, and general repair. Certified pool operator or ability to become certified within six months. Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Requirements:
    • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
    • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. consistently and work in extreme weather conditions.
    • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Commitment: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings during camp sessions.
  • Values: Belief in the Girl Scout mission and the ability to act as a role model.
