Ciena est à la recherche d’un(e) gestionnaire de conception optomécanique passionné(e) et expérimenté(e) pour diriger une équipe d’ingénieurs et de concepteurs. Relevant du directeur du développement optique, le ou la titulaire du poste aura pour mandat de superviser les activités de conception optomécanique, d’assurer le développement professionnel des membres de son équipe – en particulier les employés juniors – et de favoriser la collaboration avec les différents groupes de développement.
L’équipe de conception est responsable d'effectuer la modélisation mécanique, thermique et de contrainte des composants optiques, de définir la spécification en collaboration avec l'équipe optique, de planifier le plan d'expérience et d'analyser les résultats de ces expériences pour confirmer et optimiser la conception afin d'atteindre les objectifs de performance.
Responsabilités principales :
- Superviser et encadrer une équipe d’ingénieurs en conception optomécanique, en assurant la qualité des livrables et le respect des échéanciers.
- Planifier, prioriser et attribuer les tâches selon les besoins des projets et les forces des membres de l’équipe.
- Offrir du mentorat technique et assurer la formation continue des employés, notamment les ingénieurs en début de carrière.
- Collaborer étroitement avec les groupes internes de test, de procédés, de conception de puces optiques et de conception optique au bureau de Québec.
- Maintenir une collaboration efficace avec les équipes situées à Ottawa, afin d’assurer une intégration fluide des composantes mécaniques aux systèmes optiques développés à l’échelle de l’entreprise.
- Participer activement aux revues de conception et à la définition des stratégies de développement technologique.
- Contribuer à l’élaboration et à l’amélioration des processus d’ingénierie et des outils de conception.
Requis :
- Baccalauréat en génie mécanique, physique ou discipline connexe
- Minimum de 6 à 8 ans d’expérience en conception optomécanique
- Solide compréhension des contraintes thermiques, vibratoires et d’alignement optique dans des systèmes de haute précision.
- Excellentes aptitudes en communication, leadership, et collaboration interfonctionnelle.

Ciena is seeking a passionate and experienced Optomechanical Design Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers. Reporting to the Director of Optical Development, the selected candidate will be responsible for supervising all optomechanical design activities, supporting the professional growth of team members—particularly junior engineers—and fostering close collaboration with other development teams.
The optomechanical design team is responsible for the mechanical, thermal, and stress modeling of optical components, defining specifications in collaboration with the optical design team, planning experiments, and analyzing results to confirm and optimize designs in order to meet performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and lead a team of optomechanical design engineers, ensuring high technical quality and on-time delivery.
• Plan, organize, and assign tasks based on project priorities and individual strengths.
• Provide technical mentorship and continuous training for team members, with a focus on developing junior engineers.
• Work closely with internal groups in Québec including testing, process engineering, optical chip design, and optical design teams.
• Maintain effective collaboration with Ciena teams in Ottawa to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components into broader optical systems.
• Actively participate in design reviews and the development of technology roadmaps.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, methods, and tools.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in optomechanical design.
• Strong understanding of thermal, vibrational, and optical alignment constraints in high-precision systems.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Assets:
• Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• Team management experience.

Pay Range:
The annual pay range for this position is $112,400 - $179,600.
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
