Turner Staffing Group is seeking a Geotechnician to support a client's drilling activities in the Tonopah, Nevada area. This is a field-based, project-driven role supporting core processing and related geotechnical activities.
The Geotechnician will work closely with the drilling and geology teams to safely and efficiently process drill core. The role requires hands-on work, including operating an electric core saw and regularly handling and moving core boxes.
The exact rotation is still being finalized based on project needs. Candidates should be comfortable working rotational hitches of at least 8 days at a time, with a 10 days on / 6 days off rotation currently anticipated.
Responsibilities
- Cut drill core using an electric core saw in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
- Handle, organize, and move core boxes throughout the core processing workflow.
- Assist with photographing and documenting drill core.
- Perform or assist with portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) analysis of core as required.
- Perform or assist with Rock Quality Designation (RQD) measurements and core logging activities.
- Maintain organized core processing and work areas.
- Accurately follow sample identification, handling, and documentation procedures.
- Work collaboratively with geologists, drilling personnel, and other project team members.
- Follow all site-specific safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Perform other drilling and geotechnical support duties based on project needs.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in geotechnical, geological, drilling, mining, core processing, or similar field work strongly preferred.
- Experience operating a core saw is preferred.
- Familiarity with core photography, pXRF, RQD, or geological core handling is a plus.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including regularly handling and moving core boxes.
- Comfortable working extended rotational hitches and adapting to changing project schedules.
- Ability to work effectively in a field-oriented environment and follow detailed procedures.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to workplace safety.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
