ISS STOXX is actively hiring a Geospatial Research Analyst for Mumbai (Goregaon East) location.
Overview:
ISS STOXX is seeking analysts to join its ‘Specialized Research- Geospatial Assets’ team for a full-time position. The successful candidate will be part of the global ISS STOXX Climate & Nature Analytics unit and will be involved in assessing and documenting the geospatial asset data of publicly listed companies, covering a continuously expanding investment universe. The ISS STOXX Climate & Nature Analytics asset database is the foundation of climate risk, nature risk, and biodiversity impact analysis.
The role includes being a part of the Specialized Research team based in Mumbai, India, and working on continuous enhancement of processes for the research of new data points leveraging geospatial technology. Specific responsibilities include asset-data research, data cleansing and validation, climate research, professional mentorship of new team members and individual/ team development. Furthermore, the analyst will work towards improving efficiency of research processes, consequently contributing towards highest quality of asset data; establish systems to expand the depth and breadth of research components in future.
The Specialized Research analyst is expected to support implementation of client mandates, support client facing teams in answering client questions for existing clients or prospects. The analyst is expected to work both independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues based locally and across offices worldwide. A successful candidate would have a background in research and data services and exhibit a passion for responsible investment business with a focus on climate change research and analysis. They should have proven abilities to proactively contribute to problem solving and work with high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:

Ensure data quality, accuracy, and completeness through rigorous validation and data cleansing processes.

Improve existing processes and implement new processes for research and data collection, specifically for asset-level data and emissions databases.

Identify, research, document, and curate geospatial asset data from diverse sources, including company disclosures (e.g. sustainability reports, annual reports), public databases, and open-source data libraries to evaluate companies' asset-level climate risk exposures.

Develop and maintain efficient data management workflows and standards to facilitate data accessibility and retrieval.

Support smooth functioning of the research unit, including but not limited to process documentation, knowledge management, methodology upgrades and mapping enhancements.
Additional responsibilities (Analyst):

Generate insightful reports and visualizations to communicate the findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.

Perform spatial analysis using GIS software to identify patterns, relationships, and insights within the geospatial data.

Support colleagues and clients as subject matter experts on products and services of ISS STOXX Climate & Nature Analytics including support on day-to-day communications and operations.

Support sales and client services with client specific research requests and may be required to present findings of such deep dive research to clients.
Qualifications:
-
0 to 4 years of relevant experience relating to data or research; any experience in climate change data is bonus.

A master’s/ advanced degree in environmental sciences/ geography/ engineering/ economics/ geoinformatics/ MBA with sustainability focus/ or a related field.

Integrity, organizational skills, and high attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.

Excellent command of Excel and good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.

Strong research and analytical skills, ability to quickly process large amounts of data and information.

Excellent verbal and written command of English.

Willingness to work with a highly collaborative, flexible and innovative team across different locations.

Regular work hours with slight flexibility to collaborate with colleagues and clients in different time zones.
Preferable additional qualifications:
-
Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)/ Educational background or work experience in GIS technologies.

Experience with cloud-based geospatial platforms (e.g., Google Earth Engine, AWS)

Experience with data extraction from SQL/NoSQL databases as well as using Python or R libraries for data analysis and visualization.

Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
