Key responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle general accounting functions including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with GAAP and applicable healthcare industry regulations.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring proper coding and timely processing aligned with healthcare billing standards.
- Monitor and reconcile general ledger accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies with precision and urgency.
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing required documentation, schedules, and variance analyses.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and multi-year financial forecasts in collaboration with department leadership.
- Ensure compliance with Puerto Rico Treasury Department (Hacienda) requirements, federal tax obligations, and applicable CMS/Medicaid/Medicare billing regulations.
- Analyze financial performance data and deliver actionable insights and reports to senior management.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical, operations, and HR teams to support budgeting and cost-center reporting needs.
Skills & experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a healthcare, hospital, or medical services environment strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA license (ICPA — Puerto Rico) is a significant advantage.
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP, healthcare revenue cycle principles, and Puerto Rico and U.S. federal tax regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP/healthcare financial systems); advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and/or private health insurance billing, reimbursement processes, and cost reporting is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- High degree of accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial and patient-adjacent data.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (written and verbal) required.
