About the Role:Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBIX) is offering the opportunity to gain gene therapy experience in the world of biotechnology. Our intern program offers exposure to AAV design, protein engineering, and gene therapy development. The gene therapy team is a dynamic group that can provide hands-on experience in a rapidly expanding field._
Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):- Supporting a range of activities associated with viral design, production, and quantification, including maintenance of tissue cultures and molecular biology assays.
- Interaction with project team to gain exposure to the steps of gene therapy drug development and production.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques associated with AAV production and quantification using modern equipment, including cloning, titering, and contaminant quantification.
- Exposure to modern AAV production techniques, including adherent and suspension culture.
- Enhancing skillset in communication, time management and organizational/interpersonal skills.
- Accurate documentation of protocols with clear presented written summaries in addition to frequent verbal data summaries.
- Collaborating with a mentor team of cross-functional team members as well as the other interns in the class.
- Completing a special project and presenting to senior management upon completion.
- Pursuing a PHD with an interest in biotechnology.
- Specific degree or field required: anything in biology, including pre-dental and pre-medical fields.
- Prior experience in the molecular biology and/or protein engineering would be an asset but is not required.
- Familiarity with tissue culture, neuroscience, and cellular biology is desirable.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively and be a team player.
- Offer flexibility with a willingness to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Bring to the Company a skill set complementary to its technology and development therapeutics.
- Interest in attending various program events, including social gatherings, career development workshops, and more.
- Ability to commit to a 10-week, full-time summer program.
- Lab Work Requirements: Full-time.
