Position Overview

Aptive Resources is seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Gastroenterologists to provide on-site gastroenterology physician services at the Boise VA Medical Center (500 W. Fort St., Boise, ID 83702) in support of Veterans Health Administration. Providers will deliver the full range of clinical and procedural gastroenterology care — approximately 95% direct patient care — to our nation’s Veterans in a state-of-the-art medical treatment setting, with care meeting or exceeding American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and American College of Physicians (ACP) clinical practice guidelines.

Position Details

Location: Boise VA Medical Center, 500 W. Fort St., Boise, ID 83702

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (clinic and procedure services)

On-Call: Rotational on-call coverage, generally 1-in-4 rotation shared with VA and contract physicians — weeknights (4:30 PM–8:00 AM), weekends, and federal holidays. On-call physician must respond by telephone within 15 minutes and report on site within 60 minutes when medically indicated.

Employment Type: Full-time contract (W2 or 1099 available); malpractice coverage provided

Primary Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient gastroenterology clinic services, including consultative evaluations for ambulatory patients and bedside consultation for non-ambulatory patients, with procedures completed within 30 days of consult
  • Perform the full range of endoscopic procedures, including: diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy (with biopsy, polypectomy via hot forceps or snare, tumor/polyp/lesion ablation, and colonoscopy via colostomy) and diagnostic and therapeutic EGD (with biopsy and tumor/polyp/lesion removal via hot forceps or snare), including combined colonoscopy with EGD
  • Communicate test results to patients and providers in accordance with VHA requirements, and provide discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with the next care setting
  • Document all care, procedure reports, and clinical notes in the VA electronic health record (CPRS) and Provation
  • Provide education and supervision of health professions trainees (residents/fellows) rotating through the Gastroenterology Service, per VA and accrediting-agency guidelines
  • Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement activities, complete QM/PI documentation for procedures and outcomes, and comply with all patient safety, infection control, and medication policies
  • Attend staff meetings as required by the Chief of Service or Chief of Staff (administrative time approximately 5%)
Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO with current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth, or the District of Columbia (candidates with any history of a restricted, suspended, revoked, or surrendered license cannot be considered)
  • Board Certified OR Board Eligible in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM); status must be maintained throughout performance
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or facility-accepted equivalent)
  • Current DEA registration and NPI
  • Current CME meeting national/medical association minimum standards
  • Ability to obtain VA credentialing and privileging (VetPro) and pass VA background/security screening prior to first duty shift; must not appear on the HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities
  • Proof of required immunizations and screenings, including TB testing, MMR, varicella, Tdap, annual influenza vaccine, and Hepatitis B series with surface antigen results
  • Fluent spoken and written English
