What You Will Do:
Locate and identify natural gas lines and related facilities.
Install piping in trenches and perform manual excavation around existing utilities.
Conduct pressure testing on steel and plastic gas lines.
Support maintenance activities and assist with repairs to leaks and third-party damage.
Safely operate company vehicles and maintain truck inventory.
Set up DOT-compliant job sites, including traffic control and flagging.
Complete test chart installations and other duties as required
based on business needs.
Who You Are:
0-6 months experience as a Gas Trainee or 12 months as a Gas Operations & Maintenance Specialist I.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge and skill with common hand and power tools (i.e. shovel, screwdriver, pipe wrench, drill, Sawzall, etc.).
Ability to be fit tested for self-contained breathing apparatus equipment.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions are critical.
Ability to work as a team member within a diverse team with a focus on safety.
Basic computer and internet navigation skills.
Availability for overtime and natural gas emergency response during the workday, as well as in the evenings and some weekends when on-call.
Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute response time from the geographical center of the Gastonia area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for Enbridge Gas North Carolina and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call.
Valid Driver’s license and the ability to adhere to safe driving procedures.
Preferred:
6-12 months experience using hand tools and excavating equipment
Good mechanical aptitude.
Bilingual (Spanish) candidates.
A valid Commercial Driver's License is strongly preferred OR must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of employment.
Working Conditions:
Outdoor work environment working in all weather conditions
Manual work
Occasional heavy lifting up to 80lbs independently
Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:
Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 80 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
