Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic’s own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.
GAME SERVICES ENGINEER INTERNWhat You'll DoEOS Backend operates cloud services which power Epic titles and are freely available to other developers, enabling them to launch, operate, and scale great games with the same services Epic uses. This includes services such as session management, lobby management, achievements, statistics, and more. This is an opportunity to see how large scale online game services are built, so if you are interested in learning how online games work, and want to build something Epic, this is the opportunity for you!
In this role, you will- Assist in migrating critical backend services to an event driven architecture. This work will involve collaborating with service owners and designers to build integrations with an in-house event management pipeline
- Gain experience building components of a large scale data processing system, and learn how it enables various games to function
- Receive mentorship and guidance from industry veterans
- Computer Science degree or related discipline. Analytical thought process and strong problem-solving skills desired
- Demonstrable proficiency in object oriented programing - Java preferred
- Knowledge and interest in networking, distributed systems, REST, and cloud services (AWS)
- Interest in online multiplayer games or games as a service
- Evidence of programming work in a student or internship environment. We want to see examples of your code and ability to develop online features and tools
