Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carrying out anti-poaching patrols as directed
- Monitoring illegal activities, fire and water management
- Being involved in game capture and translocation of animals
- Collecting data whilst in the field for patrol and other management activities
- Collecting information on illegal activities and submit such information for strategic planning
- Attending to problem animals and plant invasive species
- Ensuring that all offenders are brought to book
- Providing information to members of the public on how to deal with animal/human conflicts
- Involvement in tree impact assessments, aerial surveys and fixed-point photography
- Conducting regular wildlife census and monitoring population dynamics
- Assisting in the maintenance of park infrastructure, including fences, roads, and water points
- Participating in community outreach programmes to promote conservation awareness
- Providing guided tours and educational talks to visitors when required
- Assisting in wildlife research projects and collaborating with scientific teams
- Maintaining and operating field equipment, including vehicles, radios, and GPS devices
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the environment and behaviours of wild animals
- At least Certificate in Ordinary level of Education
- Prior work experience in a similar role would be an added advantage
- Able to pass a basic health screening including physical exams
- Excellent physical fitness and stamina to conduct long patrols in challenging terrain
- Proficiency in using GPS devices, radios, and other field equipment
- Valid driver's licence and experience driving 4x4 vehicles in off-road conditions
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently when required
- Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages would be beneficial
- Basic first aid certification
- Demonstrated passion for wildlife conservation and environmental protection
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
