Scripps Sports is seeking a knowledgeable and engaging Game Analyst/Color Commentator for a full-time temporary position. In this role, you will provide expert commentary and analysis on sporting events, teams, and athletes in the studio and during live broadcasts. You will use your deep understanding of sports, strong analytical skills, and on-air presence to make complex information engaging and accessible for television, radio, and online audiences.

You will deliver detailed live commentary, provide expert analysis alongside play-by-play talent, explain key plays and strategies, and help audiences better understand the athletes, teams, and storylines shaping each event.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Provide in-depth analysis and commentary on sporting events, games, tournaments, and championships.
  • Serve as the color commentator during live broadcasts, offering insight, perspective, and analysis alongside play-by-play announcers.
  • Narrate key plays, strategies, turning points, and momentum shifts during live broadcasts.
  • Break down player performance, team strategies, advanced statistics, and game dynamics in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Provide pre-game, in-game, halftime, and post-game analysis, highlighting key moments and factors influencing the outcome.
  • Collaborate with producers, hosts, reporters, and other analysts to develop segment ideas, storylines, and cohesive broadcast coverage.
  • Conduct research and prepare detailed information on teams, athletes, matchups, and upcoming events to support accurate and informed analysis.
  • Leverage advanced statistics, analytics, and other research tools to provide deeper insights and context.
  • Appear across network programming, including pre-game shows, halftime reports, post-game analysis segments, and special coverage.
  • Participate in special features, documentaries, and other sports-related programming as needed.
  • Engage with viewers through social media, live chats, question-and-answer sessions, and other interactive platforms.
  • Stay current on sports news, industry trends, league developments, historical context, and emerging storylines.
  • Maintain accuracy, professionalism, and composure while responding to the fast-paced and unpredictable nature of live sports coverage.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, broadcasting, sports management, or a related discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Generally, five or more years of experience in sports broadcasting, sports journalism, on-air analysis, color commentary, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience providing live color commentary or game analysis for television, radio, streaming, collegiate, professional, or digital sports broadcasts preferred.
  • Experience using advanced sports analytics, statistics, and research to support commentary and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast equipment and production software.
