Purpose:
Athene is a great place to be! Our Accountant I position will report to the Director GAAP Reporting, but will work independently with peers and leaders across the organization to manage and execute financial processes.Accountabilities:
Performs financial reporting related tasks for assigned entities/functions. Includes posting and verification of journal entries, hierarchy and report building, coordinating work requirements and deadlines from others, managing the Athene financial close process
Support the analysis of financial results and research and resolve variances and inconsistencies in financial statements by applying normal accounting techniques and standard practices
Performs reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts
Collaborate with other teams both within and outside of Finance to achieve mutual objectives and support problem solving
Assist with annual external audits and examinations including the preparation of work papers, analysis of data, and information gathering
Assist with SEC and GAAP reporting
Assist in the coordination and creating of GAAP ledger infrastructure and reports
Implement GAAP accounting policy for new business transactions
Assists with other finance projects as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience is required
3+ years of GAAP accounting and reporting is required; insurance company experience is preferred
Experience with Workiva’s Wdesk solution is preferred
Experience with Oracle, Essbase, and Hyperion is preferred
Completion of or interest in CPA and/or FLMI designations is preferred
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to draw conclusions from research and report on findings
Strong communication skills
Proficient with MS Office products such as Word and Excel
