Graduate Assistant (Teaching) – Biology
Graduate Assistant - Teaching (GAT's) will assist faculty with undergraduate laboratory and lecture courses. Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with the instruction and supervision of laboratory classes.
- Grading laboratory assignments, homework, exams, papers, and reports.
- Supervising students in the laboratory learning environment and ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assisting with virtual laboratories and utilizing the D2L Brightspace learning management system, as needed.
- Assisting faculty with grading lecture course assignments and exams.
- Proctoring exams and make-up exams.
- Preparing chemicals for instructional laboratories.
- Assisting with stockroom operations, including distributing laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Holding weekly office hours to provide academic support to students.
Applicants should have a strong background in Biology and laboratory experience. Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and demonstrated experience working with chemicals are required. This position is open to graduate students pursuing a master's degree in biology or a closely related field.
Appointments are available for 3-, 4.5-, or 9-month terms. Reappointment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and departmental needs. Failure to perform assigned duties may result in early termination of the appointment.

Skills Required
- Strong background in Biology and laboratory experience
- Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and proper use of PPE
- Demonstrated experience working with chemicals
- Enrollment in a master's degree program in Biology or a closely related field
- Familiarity with virtual laboratory tools and learning management systems (D2L Brightspace)
- Ability to pass a criminal history/background check
