What We Are Looking For

TSU is seeking a Ground Person Level 1 to support vegetation management and utility line clearance operations. This entry-level position assists crews with brush handling, equipment support, traffic control, and general jobsite duties while learning industry best practices and safe work procedures. Success in this role is demonstrated through reliability, safety awareness, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.

What You Will Do

  • Assist with brush removal, chipping operations, and movement of vegetative material.
  • Support vegetation management and tree trimming crews with general ground operations.
  • Assist with equipment setup, cleanup, fueling, and daily inspections.
  • Support climbers and crew members with tools, materials, and worksite preparation.
  • Operate basic vegetation management tools after proper training.
  • Assist with trailer loading, jobsite organization, and material handling.
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies, and work practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized worksite and equipment area.
  • Assist with traffic control and other operational support activities as needed.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn vegetation management and utility forestry industry skills.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in landscaping, construction, tree care, vegetation management, or outdoor labor.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A or B.
  • Traffic control certification.
  • Interest in developing a career within utility vegetation management.

What to Expect

Ground Person Level 1 is an entry-level field position designed to provide hands-on experience in vegetation management operations. Employees work outdoors supporting crews in brush handling, traffic control, equipment support, and general jobsite activities. This role offers opportunities to develop skills and advance into higher-level vegetation management positions within TSU.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Frequent lifting and carrying of 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and work on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to wear required PPE.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around moving equipment.
  • Commitment to following all safety standards and protocols.
