Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced FX Controller to join our growing finance team. The FX Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of foreign exchange (FX) related financial accounting and reporting, ensuring robust control frameworks, and accurate reporting. This role requires a strong understanding of financial accounting, international finance, and FX and derivative markets.
Your mission
As the FX controller, your role will involve reviewing, analysing and reporting on Finance FX PnL and Exposure; ensuring our finance ledger is both complete and accurate for every aspect of FX reporting, from month-end closure through to our annual report notes and disclosures. You will play a crucial part in analyzing FX impacts on financial performance and contributing to strategic financial planning for Wise.
You will ensure that our controls are fit for purpose and best in industry; bringing consistency to our FX exposure management framework.
To achieve this, you will partner deeply with teams across the business including Product, Operations, Engineering, Analysts, Markets, Finance, Treasury and Compliance.
Here’s how you’ll contribute to Wise’s mission:
Manage and oversee all FX-related accounting entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP) and internal policies.
Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual FX exposure reports, including translation, transaction, and economic exposures.
Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of all FX-related balance sheet accounts.
Support the preparation of consolidated financial statements, ensuring correct FX translation and elimination entries.
Support the development and implementation of FX hedging strategies to mitigate currency exposure, working closely with Treasury and/ or Markets teams.
Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls over FX transactions and processes to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity.
Document business processes and accounting policies for FX operations.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in FX management.
Provide insightful analysis of FX impacts on financial performance, including P&L and balance sheet.
Assist the wider Controller function with items related to Treasury financials. For example, interest income and expense.
This role will give you the opportunity to:
Impact every Wise customer, as your work will play a critical role in ensuring fair pricing is at the core of all our products
Choose your path to impact - we believe people are most empowered when they can act autonomously. So rather than telling you what to do, you’ll collaborate with your team to create a vision of your own. Of course, you can always gather feedback from smart, curious people across Wise but you’ll have the freedom to make your own calls
Qualifications & Experience
Must-have:
You are a seasoned FX Controller with experience in Finance or Controller roles; working in a financial services org or wider industry with significant cross border transactions.
You have strong understanding and experience of Currency Exposure management, and related products (such as spot, forwards, FX Swaps and NDFs) including hedging strategies and risk management principles.
You have experience of explaining FX P&L, providing commentaries linking it to market and macro trends.
You have experience in designing and advising on control best practices.
You have experience in both internal (senior management) and external (external auditors) stakeholder management.
You’re hands on and happy to get ‘stuck-in’ to delivering solutions to support our business.
£90,000-£100,000
