We are seeking an experienced Functional Safety Engineer to lead system-level functional safety activities for advanced low-voltage battery systems in automotive applications. This role provides technical leadership and ownership of all functional safety engineering tasks in accordance with ISO 26262, ensuring that our products meet the highest safety and quality standards.
As the technical expert for functional safety, you will plan, coordinate, and execute safety-related systems engineering activities throughout the concept and development phases. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, interact with OEM customers, and represent the functional safety domain in project reviews, audits, and technical discussions.
This position is ideal for a highly skilled engineer with deep expertise in automotive functional safety, strong analytical capabilities, and excellent communication skills, looking to contribute to innovative battery system technologies within a growing engineering hub in Monterrey.
Functional objectives:
• Role Focus: Technical responsibility for functional safety engineering on system level in automotive system component development projects
• Responsibility: Planning and oversight for all functional safety related systems engineering activities
• Expertise: Solid expert knowledge in automotive functional safety; accountable for solving complex technical issues
• Communication: Managing interfaces with other departments; presenting project results
• Special Remarks: Technical leadership in functional safety development
Main Tasks:
Responsible for system level functional safety systems engineering in low voltage battery system development projects
Focused on functional safety in the concept phase and product development at system level (parts 3 and 4 of ISO 26262)
Ensure compliance with ISO 26262 standards for all conducted engineering activities.
Lead and conduct safety analyses, including Hazard and Risk Assessments (HARA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
Develop functional safety requirements, functional safety concept, technical safety requirements, and technical safety concept
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
Contribute to functional safety topics in communication and meetings with automotive OEM customers
Participate in safety audits and assessments to ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards.
Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in functional safety and automotive technologies.
Education and professional knowledge:
Degree obtained through an up to four-year university program (Bachelor, Diplom) at a university or university of applied sciences in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
5+ years of experience in functional safety engineering within the automotive industry, preferably at a tier 1 supplier in battery management system projects
In-depth knowledge of ISO 26262 standards and their application in automotive product development.
Expert knowledge of functional safety analysis methods (FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA) and experience with functional safety engineering tools (e.g., Ansys medini analyze, Isograph Reliability Workbench, …)
Proven experience in conducting safety analyses and developing safety requirements and concepts.
Profound background in automotive embedded electronics and software
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Certification in functional safety (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer) is a plus.
Experience with Systems Engineering for safety-critical systems (certification is a plus, e.g., INCOSE CSEP)
