Purpose of the role
The Fundraising Associate grows and diversifies BDI's funding base. The role builds a steady pipeline of funding opportunities and supports the bids that position BDI to win multi-year grants across its sectors: agriculture, environmental governance, community health, and youth development.
The role supports the fundraising team's core goal: moving BDI from single, short-term awards to renewed, multi-year funding relationships.
Key responsibilities
Funding opportunity identification
• Track and screen calls for proposals from EU, GIZ, BMZ, UNICEF, GEF, foundations, and corporate funders.
• Maintain a live opportunity pipeline with deadlines, eligibility, and fit against BDI's programs.
• Research new and non-traditional funders, including impact investors and private philanthropy.
• Prepare go/no-go assessments so the team pursues opportunities that match BDI's strengths.
Fundraising support
• Support development of concept notes and expressions of interest under the fundraising team's direction.
• Help prepare donor briefings, pitch materials, and presentations for funding meetings.
• Gather program evidence and results needed to support funding bids.
• Track fundraising targets and report progress against the pipeline.
Coordination and record-keeping
• Maintain a donor and prospect database with contact history and engagement status.
• Coordinate with the Proposal/Grant Writing and Partnerships Associates so opportunities move cleanly from identification to submission.
• Keep a filed record of submitted applications, outcomes, and donor feedback.
