The Fundamentals Market Analyst - Power will assist in developing and communicating the company’s view on power and natural gas markets. The role requires an in-depth knowledge of regional and macro energy markets and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide accurate and actionable insights which support marketing and trading decisions
• Aid in the management of corporate S&D and balancing area models
• Help shape strategic view on regional power and gas markets
• Collaborate on monthly price forecasting
• Run predictive analysis to identify arbitrage opportunities
• Compose daily premarket updates to clients summarizing the latest physical and paper market changes
• Participate in the development of monthly fundamentals presentations for internal/external stakeholders
• Lead client-facing meetings when required to discuss electricity market outlook
• Track industry developments including regulations, infrastructure projects, capital plans, etc.
• Respond to ad hoc origination, trading and corporate requests as required
QualificationsSkills:
• Demonstrated ability to be a reliable and collaborative team player
• Strong understanding of fundamental electricity and natural gas market drivers
• Strong understanding of financial and physical power and gas basis market dynamics
• Proficiency in quantitative analysis and statistical or predictive modeling
• Exceptional written and verbal presentation skills
• Proficiency with large datasets and SQL queries a plus
• Experience with database administration/development a plus
• Coding skills (R/Python/etc.) a must
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required in economics, mathematics or finance
• 5+ years of experience in computer engineering
• Trade desk or banking commodity desk experience preferred
