The Opportunity

Our Power and Energy Solutions group is currently looking to add a Fundamentals Analyst (US Power Trading) to support the growth of our non-regulated affiliate Natural Gas, Power and Emissions marketing and trading business, based in Houston, TX.

The Fundamentals Analyst will directly partner with the US Power Trading team to support the analysis of market data, data management, and translation of the data into actionable business intelligence. This will assist with the development and execution of trading strategies, as well as overall operational strengths.

What you’ll do 

  • Provide ad hoc and timely analysis and recommendations to support power trading activities, including hedging, bidding strategies, portfolio optimization, and risk assessment
  • Develop models and dashboards to help understand, forecast, and visualize power supply/demand balances
  • Work closely with other power and gas analysts and traders in market view development
  • Compile, sort, and analyze large datasets from the market, vendors and internal databases to support trading strategies, forecasting, risk mitigation efforts
  • Keep up to date of regulatory and compliance matters, market rules and governmental regulations and be able to translate this information into an actionable, trading idea
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field (Economics, Mathematics, Physics, other quantitative discipline)
  • 6 years of experience in the energy /power industry
  • Proven knowledge of PJM, ERCOT, SPP or MISO markets
  • Advanced experience with data management, analysis, and manipulation
  • Proven track record of being able to transform fundamental research into salient, actionable analysis/advice
  • High level of proficiency with SQL, Excel, Python, VBA
  • Experience with report building and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.

Preferred Requirements

  • 10+ years of energy markets experience and working in a trade floor environment
  • Advanced degree in Economics, Mathematics, Physics, or other quantitative discipline
  • Strong quantitative and analytics background, including advanced-level skillset in simulation, optimization, statistics, options pricing theory
  • Experience with data science, machine learning and deep techniques such as regression, classification, etc.
